I don't know if this counts as an aquisition, since I built it (and made the body)... But here is my latest "get:"

IMG_2848.jpg

It's the latest in a longish line of "experiment" bodies where I try several (usually finish related) ideas on a sacrificial guitar. Why is it that these "never for sale" bodies always sound magnificent to my ears? I put this one together to list it as complete, but I can't bring myself to sell it now.

I'm supposed to be thinning the herd.

Picked this up yesterday in Fishers (suburb of Indy basically). Chauvet DJ Bar for $10.00. They are either all on or sound activated chase. I figured for that money, I had t buy it, right???

Yep. any light = more interest than no light. back in 2012-ish I bought a bunch of just par38's with halogen bulbs + gels and a couple of controllers that can chase (change the lights to the bass rhythm) and a couple of T-stands ("trees"). It's a lot of fun, totally changes the look. I am planning to use them in my garage to turn it into a practice "studio".

Bought another IVY guitar from Amazon, this one is the Brian May Red Special.

I am having fun learning all the sounds this guitar has with the switches.

IVY guitars are a great value, this is my fourth.

he called right when i was leaving and let me know he had done this to it trying to put it in the case to bring it to the meeting. i don't even know how he managed this.

i was really excited about this one too. but that would drive me crazy right there where it's always in eyesight, and the main reason i wanted the guitar was because it was imo gorgeous.
B-stock. Neck is stable. $89.

But seriously, bargain WAY down (while he's still processing it) and then relic it
nah, i already have an american standard strat, i don't need this, not interested in flipping it and it's not what i wanted anymore. someone else could still get a decent deal but it ain't gonna be me.
Oh no! Now you can see the wood !

:)

Boss BD-2W Waza Craft Blues Driver. Still looking for the right light to mid drive sound for my current band, and i thought it was high time i tried a blues driver. i've got two other waza pedals (super overdrive, analog delay) which i like, so i figured i'd keep the trend going. pretty cool pedal on the home rig. gets pretty gnarly on the higher gain settings. looking forward to trying it in the band rig

Boss RV-500. I went back and forth a lot on this one. This pedal...is a lot. Typically I'm happy with 3 knobs and a set-it-forget-it approach to pedals. But i wanted a good ambient reverb type pedal with a reverse mode - i was surprised how limited the options for this seem to be. I considered A LOT of different reverb pedals, and this one, despite its price tag, always came out on top. My biggest fear is that I'll come up with one setting I like and just use that - negating 95% of the pedal's potential. So I'm going to make a sincere effort to really learn how to use this thing, do some deep editing, and come up with some custom patches to justify the thing. First time I've flipped through a manual for a pedal. There's some good youtube tutorials too fortunately. If any of you guys are using this sucker, let me know, shoot me some tips!

Nice acquistions.
Might I suggest you try what I try, not always consistant.
Spin your knobs, or turn them all down, whatever works, on your new pedal everytime you turn your amp off so that next time you have to dial it back in. You'll find some other setting you may like while your fine tuning.

I just can’t pass up a deal sometimes. Ibanez AGS83B 2006 with the factory case that looks like it was barely played. Case has a few nicks. Pickup covers, and all other hardware have a little tarnish. No fret wear. It’s a little smaller than a 335 style guitar, but seems a little larger than a 339. Very comfortable size for me and really well put together. Looks to be all maple. Facebook market place for $150.

I had some cash burning a hole in my pocket after selling my ‘81 Kramer Voyager so I picked this PRS SE Custom 24 Floyd Rose today. I think she’s a keeper. This makes number 11 for purple guitars for me.

My Thunderbird now has a sibling! While we were on our way upstate, we stopped in at a local music store that I'd spotted, just because I like to do that when I'm traveling. I wasn't necessarily expecting much, but sometimes you find a good one. And this one had a new Firebird, so I had to give it a try, and it just felt and sounded right. I wouldn't have gotten it, but my wife said it would be an anniversary present, so... And yes, I do have a good wife!
birds.jpg
I've found Epiphones to be of rather variable quality, but the workmanship on this one is quite nice. The rolled edges on the neck feel good, and the frets are very good (if not quite perfect). The neck is described as a "SlimTaper™ C-profile", and while it definitely feels wider than what I'm used to, it's also reasonably slim and a bit flattened on the back and feels good. The pickups are zippy and twangy, somewhere in between PAFs and single-coils, but still have plenty of grind when you're playing dirty. I was thinking about replacing them at first, because I can't leave well enough alone, but now I think I might just leave them in! (They are supposedly period-correct construction, with bar magnets used as blades, plus a reflector plate; they're Alnico II, but I haven't been able to find out anything about what magnets original Firebirds used.)

The only thing I might change are the tuners. The Grover minis are fine, but I just feel like a Firebird really needs to have Firebird-specific tuners to be right. Unfortunately, the Klusons are both hard to get hold of and don't get very good reviews; the Steinbergers are almost as hard to get hold of but get much better reviews, and I just wish they looked slightly more vintage.

I bought a Schecter C-1 Platinum that i really liked in the store, but once I got it home, I just didn't bond, so I took it back and bought a PRS SE Mira. Much more my style, lightweight, resonant. Perfect fretwork, only issue is the tone knob is loosely mounted to the pickguard. I want to change from the mint green to a white pearloid anyway, so I'll fix that then.

got this off local market, popped up and got it for 6 bills. wasn't sure if i'd like a fretless or not but figured it was worth at least that much.

Deluxe probably means active. 4 control knobs, are some concentric? Can't quite see but curious what it does. Fretless is fun to toy with, even if you don't get great at it, you can always use it as an effect on a song.

Yeah. It’s active. The knobs are master volume, pickup blend, a stacked one for treble/bass boost and cut, and i think the little one on the end is a master tone.

I figure playing this will make me pay more attention to finger precision. It also sounds great. I prefer passive pickups on guitars but am not sure what I like 100% on basses yet.

This will be here on Tuesday. They were supposed to be in stock in August but they finally came in stock on the 6th. Since it became available on the day EVH passed, I figured it was a sign that I should get it.

Just picked up this (rather beat-up, poorly re-covered) Ampeg 2x10 cabinet. I'm fond of my Harley Benton 2x12 Vintage, but it is not fourth-floor-walkup NYC apartment friendly and the Ampeg is substantially smaller and lighter, as you can see in the picture. It was designed as a bass cabinet and doesn't excel as a guitar cabinet, but given all the tradeoffs, it will probably be what I stick with. Guess I could always stick some 10" Redcoats in it if I want.

bought 49$ loaded pick guard from The Stratosphere for Strat to sell a partscaster ( cv 60 body).
Their own set ( called Hot Texas Blues,..A5 with enamel wire, 6.4, 6.4, 7.2. Henries maybe in low 4.?.) Probably Artec ?
Tortoise pick guard was nice and fiery-red. It matched the body burst colors well. Import switch, small pots w/ green chicklet cap.
I was psyched to try it as that is somewhat hot for me.

It sounded so good I put new switch, cap, and pots in. And bought a b-stock second set w/ white PG, with dead bridge pup, for 24$, as a back up set.

For just straight into amp it has good hair with guitar volume up. Has good tone. Very live Hendrix-ish. I can't believe it. I did set the bass side lower than pick guard for starters to get more clean. But now I like bass sides about flush with pg, and treble sides just 1/8" above PG. These crank. I have been on a playing binge with them. Loud, w/ hair, not muddy at all, but with good definition still. Bright, but great with .1uf cap.
Did bridge tone knob mod, but its good wide open..no shrill.
I love this guitar now. I put on a 2 piece maple neck (maple fretboard separate piece on maple neck.... I paid a lot for this neck, now I recognize that many of my SX maple necks are built as 2 piece maple necks,... even one SX with a skunk strip has 2 piece maple construction)
