Simple question.

What's that guitar - or those guitars - you think you want or need in your collection to be complete? (Well, I don't think we really "need" guitars, right? Guitarists have no use for that verb, we just want)

So, what are those?

From my latest conversations here, I think I'm missing two SC or DC Les Pauls, in the style of Agile's AL/AD3200 - just because of the neck heel and first fret block inlay -, one with humbuckers and the other with P90s; a nice SC acoustic, and maybe a Tele of some sort - with 22 frets, not 21, and good upper fret access -. Along with the only Strat I have, it will make my definitve 5 guitar collection, and you can picture me happy.

Nice subject for a Saturday talk, don't you think? No matter how is your day going, you just have to keep on going

I don't need any more guitars. But I'd like to get:

A baritone. I need to get a baritone conversion neck from Warmoth for one of my Strats.

And a Jaguar. For that 24" scale.

A proper Les Paul. I mean, I have a Les Paul-ish, Zemaitis-ish guitar but sometimes I want a regular Les Paul. Although I might need one with humbuckers and one with P90s or minihumbuckers. Or all three.

And I still sometimes miss the Jaguar bass I traded away a while back.

Nice. Will it happen this year?

And what kind of songs can you play with a baritone guitar? I know I can google it, but, for the sake of a nice chat, what's the use of a baritone guitar?

Interesting... A proper Les Paul. Or, as you say, 3 proper Les Pauls!

Any chance of getting a Jaguar bass like you had?

Well, the Warmoth necks have a lead time of 6 weeks, and then it's a week for shipping...so even if I ordered it today, I might not get it til the very end of the year.
I've been looking for a good deal on a used Classic Vibe Jaguar. When I find one, I'll probably snap it up.

The baritone guitar can be used in many different styles of music. I think I would ideally use it in a duo with a drummer.

Would love to have a double cut P90 and an LP Junior. For nostalgia sake, I had a dark blue Washburn A20 as a teenager so I guess that one makes the list as well.

I am not missing any but it would be nice to run up on a vintage Gibson acoustic at an estate sale or yard sale and the owner had no idea what it was worth.

I'm lucky, I think I've been at "complete" for some time now, so I wasn't going to take part in this conversation. I just don't have any bucket list guitars left to acquire. But I still look, just in case there's something else I think I'd like at too good a price to pass up. For example, if a lefty 1962 Fender Jaguar popped onto the market for $500, I'd simply have to buy it. And at that point, it would feel like need.

A Rickenbacker 360/12 like George Harrison played. More like a 330 model with toaster pickups. Or, the 1978 Ibanez Iceman IC100W I bought new and that 'got away' from me. No hurries or plans on either.

I'm glad you joined.

I guess there weren't many of those in lefty, right? It'll be a great score!

If I could get a Les Paul that agrees with me, that's be good.

But honestly, playing the other night has me thinking Charvel SoCal. My Wolfgang Std was playing great, and while I like the decked Floyd, a floating Floyd wiyh a maple board with 22 frets and a compound radius would be nice too.

And I would like a real EBMM Axis.

This is the one I used to have. I really liked it, but I sold it to pay for other gear. They aren't making this exact model any more, but they do appear on the used market pretty often. (The one I had was 30" scale and had a painted headstock; the current model is 32" scale and has an unpainted headstock.) Of course, I don't really need one...or have room for one any more! :P

It's a beauty! I would have to make my 5 guitar collection up to 6 guitar collection to include a bass like that. I don't normally like silver finishes, but in this case it's perfect!

Well, "need" can be debatable ;) , and as for room space, you can go with ceiling hangers if your walls are full!

By the time I shipped to Canada, dealt with the exchange rate and replaced the low-quality Floyd they use (it's one notch below the Special), I would be within spitting distance of a used So-Cal.

A Fender Jaguar in Candy Apple Red.
A 50's style Gibson Les Paul with a nice chunky neck.

I have a Sterling AX40 that is really quite good (upgraded trem and nut), so the EBMM would have to be a really good one.

The So-Cal....just going to have to wait for the right deal.

Gibson 1983 USA Map guitar. I watched Elyse Steinman rock one of these in the clubs playing with Raging Slab in NYC in the late 80s. This experience left a lasting impression upon me.
