Would love to see some of our members' vintage MIJ LPs, so show 'em if ya got 'em! Spent some time last night cleaning up and restringing this beautiful old Fujigen Cortez LP I grabbed from GC about a year ago for a whopping $150...one of the best playing and sounding Les Pauls I've ever had the pleasure of owning.
It was actually sold to me as a "D'Agostino"...however when it arrived I noticed a little mother of pearl peeking out from behind the cheap looking D'Agostino decal. Scratched the decal off carefully and lo and behold, a beautiful mother of pearl Cortez logo underneath.
I guess this wasn't an uncommon practice back then, a company building guitars and another slapping its logo on there...but certainly the first time I've ever seen it on a guitar I owned. This baby also turned out to have a Dimarzio Air Classic bridge pickup that's a great match for it, and a Faber USA bridge.
Here she is all cleaned up and lookin' damn good for being born sometime in the late 1970s!
Anyone here own a vintage MIJ LP?

Very nice! Is that a set neck or a bolt on model? I think they had both as "lawsuit" models.BatUtilityBelt wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 4:52 pm Absolutely! 1974 Ibanez 2350 (Les Paul Custom).

Yes, they had both (I'm not sure of the year breakdowns between). Mine is 4-bolt, not a set neck.slowhand84 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 5:08 pm Very nice! Is that a set neck or a bolt on model? I think they had both as "lawsuit" models.
Right now this is the closest I've got to a MIJ LP and it's not vintage:
It beat out three custom shop Les Pauls, a PRS SC594, and a Knaggs Kenai. Obviously those Filtertrons aren't PAFs. I can EQ them to sound like PAFs but it requires some thought.

Very nice! Love that Randy Rhoads vibe. Funny timing that this thread has been reawakened, I JUST somehow caught another one of the exact same Cortez LP in my first post here for a great price and snatched it up. Should arrive Thursday, super excited for another one of these rarities. This one has a black finish but otherwise is the exact same guitar with all the high end specs.
