Have you ever wondered if a functioning guitar could be built out of a block of salt? I haven't, but here is one anyways!
A guitar built out of......salt!

I was thinking: if you tape some raw salmon backstrap to the guitar... at the end of the show you get strap lox...
Assault guitar?

Ok, I'm officially starting to get tired of this "lets build a guitar out of any weird shit" trend. Salt guitars, glass guitars, colored pencil guitars, epoxy guitars... It has jumped the shark... It's gone from fun and utilitarian to utterly pointless.

IMHO it's not a guitar thing, it's a youtube thing. any "utterly pointless" video will attract some number of eyes... I mean, there's videos of endless visual effects or trucks doing figure 8's...
I'm done with it as well, but only where it comes to building them out of unreasonable shit, like salt or used iPhones.
However, I will continue to faithfully watch and learn from those who build from materials that are sensible, like wood. I like pallet builds, builds from reclaimed wood, and builds that make specific use of the aesthetics of the source materials. These often provide new techniques to learn, and those in turn create opportunities in my own builds.
"What is this place? Where am I?"
Yep, I agree... I've had my share of ideas for guitar builds using repurposed, or "found" materials, but the goal has always been for it to result in a quality, playable instrument. Not some impractical visual oddity that I wouldn't even hang on my wall.rrobbone wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 1:40 pmI'm done with it as well, but only where it comes to building them out of unreasonable shit, like salt or used iPhones.

Haha... Yeah, those are thin on the ground lately.
People playing video games... People unboxing stuff.... It's amazing what people will waste their time watching.Gear_Junky wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 1:16 pmIMHO it's not a guitar thing, it's a youtube thing. any "utterly pointless" video will attract some number of eyes... Yeah, it's definitely for the clicks... And you eventually start running out of ideas. I've thought about starting a YouTube channel many times, but you have to think about how long you can keep generating fresh, original content in that niche.

Unboxing, don't get me started! I'd rather watch paint dry!
Unboxing videos maybe if they include some setup and if the item something you're considering buying and the existing sales site or documentation is not very good. Unboxing videos where it's literally just "watch me take this gizmo out of the box" are stupid.Gear_Junky wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 3:29 pm Unboxing, don't get me started! I'd rather watch paint dry!

Any bets how long the strings and hardware will last on a salt guitar?

Fair enough, but why do we need to watch someone cut the tape on the box? We're not customer service, we don't need proof that it came that wayglasshand wrote: ↑Sat Sep 05, 2020 3:57 pmUnboxing videos maybe if they include some setup and if the item something you're considering buying and the existing sales site or documentation is not very good. Yesterday I accidentally came across the video below. I think I liked that a lot more than salt. I would totally want a coffee table like that!

Next up, I'm expecting a frozen block of urine guitar.
Maybe with turd binding.

They used tone salt too...Pink Himalayan....regular table salt is like Basswood in the spice guitar world. I wonder if there will be a Drum Kit made from black pepper too
