Of Course Rondo Would Get This Now...

The first full-scale, Fender-style, SX bass that Kurt has had in ages, and it had to be this one? Right after I bought the Harley Benton?
I swear I wasn't looking for something to want. This dropped in my email today. The only two things that I wish the HB had that the SX does are a rosewood fretboard, and really nice looking grain. Add to that the impending demise of the North American Ash tree, and I'm feeling a pull to buy it. It may be the last time we can get Ash for a while. While another part of me feels like I'm being stupid and impulsive.

Oh, did I say two things? How could I forget the weight?? The SX is also 2.5 lbs lighter.

I've been wondering what the deal is with all the shorties. Wouldn't mind adding a standard P- or P/J bass to the stable.

Kurt ain't saying... Every time I've asked him about 34" scale basses in the past, they'ere always "on the way", but never seem to get here. What confounds me is the sheer volume of bass ukuleles he has on offer. I can't imagine
regular ukuleles are that popular. Didn't that fad pass a couple of years ago?

I could see regular ukuleles selling now. With this scamdemic we've seen "shortages" of baking yeast, bicycles, hair clippers and recently I've noticed "aluminum cans" (beer). There was a sign on the supermarket beer cooler warning that some items may not be in stock due to "nationwide shortage of aluminum cans". Whatever. But I could see people learning ukulele and guitar while cooped up at home. Not so sure of all the bass ukes, though.

Yeah, I saw that too. I've been eyeing up that Ursa 2 in LPB medium ( 32" scale ) model and noticed he added a red one too, along with that full scale alder one. That's the way it goes with Rondo though, just when you least expect it he gets stuff and when you expect it he doesn't. I actually wish the alder one was in 32" but it sure looks nice.

Close for me. But I want it with maple neck and black inserts and the pj combo. Oh, and I still want it at the $129 price

I know... I bought the last one.
There were two in stock when I went to bed last night, and I told myself if it got down to one, I would buy it.
Maybe some day I'll sell a guitar and not mediately buy another one, but not today.

You haven't bought the LPB one yet? What's stopping you?

I like that look too, but I've already got 3 basses with Maple and black blocks, and only one with Rosewood and pearloid (I'm such a sucker for block inlays).
That $129 price is going back a ways... The first SX bass I bought 12 years ago cost $149.

I'm kind of on a buying freeze for now with career transitions and such but it's encouraging to see him start having more options as well.

Oh yeah... Sorry, I forgot about your work situation.

No worries - I do have a new job and a gainful one at that - albeit temporary. Just been kind of re-assessing the whole gear situation as a whole and what do I really "need" in my life - and not just guitars.

It's no surprise
that SX is on the rise
Seeing that Laura Lee is so bad
The greatest unofficial SX bass endorser Rondo ever had
But Kurt bet on Azrael
And we all said, "What the hell?"
But you know what they say
The Lord works in mysterious ways

Yeah, me too. That's why I've been selling some of my gear off, and also why I feel just a little guilty about buying this bass.
I'm not doing a very good job of "uncluttering" my life if I immediately fill the void I created with something else! And it really doesn't have much to do with "need".
On the other hand, I'm still undergoing treatment for my back problems. I'm 1,000x better than I was back in April, but I'm thinking; maybe I shouldn't tempt fate by heaving a 12.5 lb bass around. I've been trying to pretend the weight doesn't bother me, but every time I pick it up it
screams: "I'M WAY TOO FARKING HEAVY!!".
I have other rationalizations for it, but that's my best one.
