This begs the questions:

1. How much would this pedal cost of it was preassembled? $400? $500?

2. Has DIY pedal building become such a big thing that an established company like Korg sees it as a marketing angle?

Wow..I didn't see it for sale anywhere here, DIY..hmm that's pretty weird. The Korg site says it's a no solder kit...even more intriguing. I might grab one if it shows up here...sounds like it could add some umami to any setup, especially with a SS amp.

The emphasis on the "no solder" thing reminds me of the model kits I'd look at in the toy store as a kid in the late 70s. All the beginner kits were snap together with water slide decals, but the kits for big kids and adults required contact cement and painting.

You can download the manual from korg , looks dead simple . Not sure what point is price wise , but you get participation points.

I guess I'm the pessimist here. The tone with the pedal off is worse than I have with any plain vanilla guitar and amp combo. It's as if they intentionally scooped out the mid highs to make it sound bad, then turned on the pedal to boost its favorite frequencies, filling in the hole. Of course I think most YouTube gear videos are shills pushing things we just don't need, and I think Korg has been trying really hard to find a strong market for their nutube stuff. I'd rather have an option to try something like that out in a store, using gear similar to mine before forking over that much on a pedal.

Yeah...it does sound a like a wet blanket, especially on the direct to interface example, it's the same kind of tone you get when you use a pre-amp with speaker cab and you are outputting to an amp with its own preamp and different speaker cab. Yeah...I just thought it was interesting and a good topic for conversation...pretty cool if it works...but also seems similar to something like the BBE Sonic maximizer pedal (if I remember the correct one)

Yeah. Funny we both thought of the Sonic Maximizer apparently. We used one of those on pretty much every analog master we did after it came out. The thing was marketed in a soup of audio magic with no hints as to what the circuitry was actually doing. In the case of the Sonic Maximizer, it really did sweeten most tracks, and you could dial that in pretty well. It added sparkle to a whole mix. We could tell it boosted certain frequencies based on less than intuitive criteria. The difference here is that the BBE worked on everything we tried, so it really was a value-add. It seems like Korg is trying to make a similar claim, but is starting with a horribly muted tone.

FWIW, I still don't know what the Sonic Maximizer actually does, but we ended up guessing that it tracked narrow midrange frequency bands to see which were stronger, then amplified bands that would contain harmonics of those frequencies. I'd love to eventually learn how close or far off that guess is.

I think I saw one of these from Korg's Warehouse site on Reverb.

I'd say if you want something with a Nutube they're blowing out some of the Vox pedals and the high gain head at Vox's pop up shop
