The Road Warrior - Part II

Here she is, functionally finished!

100w normal mode is pure Malcom Young / Jimmy Page. 50w normal mode conjures Angus Young. Stacked 100w is Randy Rhoades / Richie Blackmore. Stacked 50w mode sounds like Mick Ronson.

Definitely not a bedroom amp. if you get too close, it will take the enamel off your teeth!

New tubes, some new capacitors, some new switches prettier wiring and a few mod changes. I removed the tube saver mod, as this beast is so powerful, it made if farty full-up. I changed the power scaling from a 'pentode-triode' (triode mode kills the tubes' screen grid), to a cathode-cut switch which takes two of the output tubes out of the circuit.

Next up are the cosmetic repairs & chronicle video.

Love it! How can you get it loud enough to break up? Are you using an attenuator?

Attenuator? We don't need no stinkin' attenuators!

Kidding aside, I live in a single family home about 50' from any living area of my nextdoor neighbor, and my studio is fairly soundproof. So decibels are not a concern. Except for my hearing, to which I did a few tests with a long cord into the next room.

In 'stock' mode and at '2' with the master volume at '11', it is clean and about 105dB. On '4' it is crunching and about 112dB, on'7' it is in full-blown AC-DC mode and about 118dB and does not get louder if you increase the gain.

In 'stacked' mode, it cascades the two preamps and can get really nice break up at about 87dB by turning the master volume down. Switching to 50w mode, with the same setting takes it down to 82dB. Not a bedroom amp but doesn't always have to be a hearing hazard. It sounds like the 70's records, which is cool.

That will take a while. I have to reacclimate myself to video editing applications. I haven't done that in 15 years. I have been shooting raw footage and pictures along the way.
