NGD: Way too much guitar for me

So some of you may have seen my thread in the project section on putting together a parts caster for a young family member. I kinda lost the will to go on with that one just thinking about how much it may cost me all together. In the meantime we have been throwing around guitar brands (more like hey look at this cool guitar) and one that stuck out was Caparison... Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination (and if you see my other NGD posts i typically stay in the $300-500 range for myself). That being said this specific one was going for half the price of the same models i see, and so i made a run at it and got it... Never played one until now and never will lol. It's a phenominal guitar but not something a bedroom hack like myself would ever need. Like giving someone without a driver's license a Ferrari as their first car.

Guitar has a few small nicks but nothing crazy, and for what he's getting i'm sure he can learn to live with it.

The kid on the other hand is an exceptional guitar player and will be getting this for his bday in a few weeks... Without getting too mushy we've had a similar upbringing (no father around) and i try to at least make up for that by getting him shiny guitars from time to time and taking him to concerts. I'm sure the look on his face when he gets it will make up for the look on my face when i check my credit card account for the next few months.

That's pretty awesome of you. I'd never heard of the brand, but I'm in a little corner of my World, did search it, wow.
It's an investment in a person, those are usually worth it. He may be choosing a nursing home for you when, or before, that time comes.

Nice guitar. He should be pretty excited getting that one.

And funny enough, that's how I feel about my PRS McCarty 408... way too nice of a guitar for someone like me who just can't seem to play very well.

Still, I haven't sold it because I'm eternally hopeful that one day the guitar playing "light" will turn on in my head :-)

He was saying he does not have a 24 fret guitar... This will fix it and then some.

Jaysus.... that is a hell of a lot of guitar.

But since it's Japanese, maybe a twin-turbo Supra is a better analogy. Because that beast in one hell of a fast-looking vehicle.

Beautiful guitar. I like a slant neck plus bridge humbucker setup. My Charvel by Jackson 5fx has that. Good on you for the great birthday gift and hope he loves it.

Oh wow. I didn't know the brand but looked it up. Half the price sounds killer.

Couldn't be more shreddy without being pointy :) Looks very nice. It does feel extra nice to give when its going to such good use. Good on you man.
It seems the new models from agile would would possibly have been in the running also? Were any of them on the list for consideration or was this a very specific model that you or the kid were shooting for?

Thanks guys.

Funny enough he embodies what most people on this forum tend to bitch about. He loves those odd agile guitars (the 7 strings and the non lp shapes). I wanted to do something nice for him since i'm looking to buy a house. so chances are after this year i won't have any $ for a while. This guitar came up, and during the course of our daily texts i sent him this one (along with a bunch of others). He really seemed to like it so i figured i'd splurge a little.

I am going to give it to him with the advice that he is to play it for 30 days. If he doesn't bond with it, i will sell it and we will get him whatever he wants with the money. Only issue i could see with the guitar is the neck. Not necessarily a shredder neck by any stretch of the imagination...

He also had his eye on a guitar from Saw guitars in Colorado (their Flying V). So if this one doesn't work we can get him that.

That's one lucky kid. I tried out a Caparison -- an "Angelus" model (like the one pictured below) -- at a guitar show several years ago; it was the equal of any U.S.-made PRS I've ever come across -- in pricing, too!

Today is the big day! Going to make the drive up to upstate NY to give the young man his guitar. He has no idea he's getting it. I've been telling him for weeks he's getting a hello kitty squier.

Awesome!
Good on you for mentoring.
Too much guitar for me too.

I found a complete Aslin Dane Music Man Sillhoutte style guitar in a curbside junk pile while walking my dogs 2 weekends ago.
Thats about right for me.
New strings, clean up / set up/ a little TLC and an A2 magnet in the bridge HB, and I havent put it down since!!
