The Brownsville Bat

Saw this one today at a pawn shop and was intrigued by the unique shape, the quality of the fretwork, and the cheap price. I don't naturally gravitate towards non-conventional, pointy guitars, but for some odd reason I like this one.

Anyone else have a Brownsville New York guitar? Apparently they were a Sam Ash house brand and many rave about their quality to price ratio.

That's a wild one perfect for Halloween gigs if it sounds good

The Spider Queen insists...

(You get it)

I’ve got a BC Rich Warlock on a stand next to a Jazzmaster, it’s ok.

The ceramic magnet pickup is about 15.5 K resistance and has a Duncan Distortion vibe to it. I can't be sure if it's original to the guitar or if it was swapped in along with the push/pull pot. The wiring does look to be modifed. All that being said, the guitar sounds surprisingly good and plays like a dream. Great single coil bite, twang, and snap with the bucker split and crunchy and woody with both coils engaged.

I knew you'd dig the 12th fret inlay.

Neck is very stable. No neck plate either. Hardware is decent quality, not junk at all. Korean made bridge.

I'm not personally into the Batman theme. I was thinking about maybe painting it any other color than black to disassociate it from the Batman thing. Maybe white with 50s hot rod pin striping, something like what Reverend Billy Gibbons would play.

Got the "almost" Danzig skull decal...

Knowing the kinds of deals you get at pawn shops, I have no doubt this one is worth it, even if it's only to play once a year at Halloween.

I’m sure Zakk Wylde would dig that, HNGD!

I still haven't played a gig with "The Bat," but maybe I'll have the chance on Halloween 2021. I did replace the ceramic magnet in the 15.5 K humbucker with a rough cast A2. Sounds righteous now in a JB2 sort of way.

Looks like that could potentially be classified as a weapon - and with the run on firearms lately maybe you can make a nice little profit in a different market? ;-)
