For reasons of which I"m not certain - I picked up this Indio strat guitar by Monoprice this week. Got it for $45 on Mac Bid. I really don't need another another guitar around and especially a strat - but here we are! Luckily the guitar was without any flaws except the bridge pickup left screw was completely out of the pickup. Wondering if that's why it was returned.

It's your typical budget guitar fare - basswood or poplar body, ceramic pickups, plastic nut, cheap tuners and tremolo etc. The neck isn't half bad -a little on the slender side but the frets need a little attention as there are few high ones and a couple fret ends could use smoothed over. I was curious if the neck pocket was fender spec but it's not - but it's close. Not sure what the plan is going to be for this yet. I actually dig the black on black look. Here's a few pictures.

I totally understand what you mean. You're not just infatuated with music, or with having a perfectly set up guitar delivered to your door at a premium price. There's something inside of you which understands that what makes a guitar play and sound as though it has a soul has less to do with money than it has to do with a human being giving it love and attention. You're the type of person who can give a guitar that kind of love, though you feel the need to prove that to yourself.

Maybe that's you, or maybe I'm just making my own confession about why I'm compelled to keep buying cheap guitars. Either way, I know that we both love guitars or we wouldn't be here.

In the scheme of things $45 is a cheap price to pay for taking a chance on love.

Great insight LOL! Some spot-on points - I recently put a bunch of love and attention into a $15 Squier Affinity Strat that has become my #2 favorite - and I play it more than my #1. I play it daily - it's so good. I was at a GC recently playing some new Fender strats and although they were nice - there were none that made me think " this is sooo much better than my Affinity project". I feel like when I look at a cheap guitar I don't think about what it is as much as "what can it be".....

Although I told myself after the Affinity strat to take a break on projects. I need to spend more time practicing. LOL.

Well I don't hate, but I also don't love, the headstock on this. I cut out a tele headstock template and sure looks like I could modify this to a tele shape. The problem is then I will then have three strat body/tele headstock guitars ( Squier '51 and an 80's Japanese Squier Bullet). But I guess this isn't really a problem LOL and I"ve given some thought to moving the Japanese bullet along at some point. If I decide to do this what should I use? A coping saw?

My daughter mentioned turning this into some sort of unique "Hello Kitty" themed guitar for her. Could prove interesting lol.

I am super happy with the offset I got from Monoprice. Haven't needed to change anything except the nut.
