Artsy-fartsy band clip

Last week I brought my two little cameras to band practice along with the ‘ol Fostex recording console. I’ve increasingly been handling the bass duties (and am kept well away from microphones) but I convinced the gang to hang around for one more song before splitting. It turned out ok, I think.

A few notes:
- I’m not going to apologize for my singing and playing. It’s the best I can do.
- The slight fish eye distortion is responsible for my big strong arms.
- The banjo player is playing bass on this song and mailing it in for the most part. His “wow!” at the end refers to the decibel level, not the performance. He’s a sensitive guy.
- 1:38 is probably a personal best in terms of playing and tone.
- I tried out some new video tricks at the end during Chuck's outro solo.

The mix:
Bass - direct in (and then out to PA).
Drums - ambient.
Vocals – RCA line out jacks of the PA.
Each guitar amp had a mic.

This video led to a new laptop purchase! Our desktop was bogging down to the point where my wife offered to purchase a dedicated machine for video and music so that she can get some screen time for herself.

The rig (along with the Smelly Tele):

That's pretty good. I think a harmonica would add to it in places. An a wah might sound nice here and there.

That was good, I'm glad you bumped it, as I somehow missed it before.

And one thing I've always liked about AGF is how humble everyone is. I mean, when I say I suck at guitar, I mean it, but everyone else here says it, and they're all great players :-)

Anyway, nicely done, hope you'll post more of them now that you've got your new video editing system...

I really enjoyed it, Tommy tlarson58 !

Great sound and groove, and singing. You all played great. Keep on making videos.

Was that an original song of you guys?

Many times I hear some of the stuff you guys put out here and there is lots of production put into it. And I always think "wow I wonder if we would sound this good with some good mixing and production?". And then we get to hear some more basic recordings like this and I say "Nope"
This would be great to listen to at a bar. Great groove. I've settled on that as a top compliment. Not just because groove is so important but it also can't exist unless everything else is there and working. It means all the parts are there and working, holding each other up.
Great work. Thanks for posting. Good video production too. What did you use?

nomadh and OMB, I used two DJI Osmo Action cameras (like go-pros).

The video quality is fantastic in good lighting, but not-so-good indoors. The fish eye view can be turned down but it's always present. They're indestructible action cams that are right up my alley.

Call me as you're rolling into town (oh, you were talking figuratively). Ha.

I am playing around with that AGF long weekend in Steamboat idea I had two years ago. Perhaps next summer? Or not. Drop ins are cool, too.

Great job Tommy tlarson58! Those are some wicked double stops you hit on the first solo. The other guitar player's solo at the end with that phaser tone is also cool. It's gutsy to make a video of a live performance, as any mistakes are essentially un-editable. It's much safer to "MTV" it with studio audio underneath the video. So kudos for having the courage to let the world hear Extra Mustard live and raw.
