Whatever the Velvet Blues is, it's apparently really Straty.
I've read many guitar forum discussions where people claim that a Strat and a Les Paul are indistinguishable. I suppose that may be true, if the Strat in question is loaded with humbuckers, or if an amp or other processing is heavily dominating the tone. But that's not the case on this tune. What you're hearing is the demo guitar track I recorded straight into the board when I was composing the song. I sometimes do this when inspiration is coming hard and fast and I don't want to take the time to mic amps and kill the vibe. I use the word "song" loosely, as it's really just a blues jam. I intended to re-track the guitar using a real amp, and I actually tried to do just that, but all my efforts lacked the spark of the original off-the-cuff performance. I contemplated re-amping the raw guitar signal, but settled on a basic preset in Logic. It just seemed to sit in the mix best.
Anyways, I actually do know what "Velvet Blues" means, other than it being an interesting play on words. Ever work with a songwriting partner that's having a tumultuous love life? It can be the catalyst for a lot of creative inspiration.
