A Tribute to Major Tom and Dan F in Song!

The last thread I started on the old forum was about ZZ Top's Afterburner album, so I had that 80s, pumping synth blues sound in my head and was consciously trying to mimic that vibe in a song. I already had the main riff when Major Tom dropped the bomb.Bubba Zanetti wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 3:46 pm that was great! Loved the classic babes BBQ’ing motif, and Lemmy flipping the bird. Liked the guitar tone as well: how did you craft it?
I grabbed most of the babes from your "One guitar, one girl, go!" thread. That's why I wrote "AGF approved."
I was going to go all in with the ZZ Top theme and have me in one piece coveralls standing in front of a synth, with a split screen and shots of me doing synchronized Devo moves. Just didn't have the time to put it all together at the moment. You'll just have to settle for the scantily clad babes instead.
Great art is rarely appreciated in the artist's lifetime.toomanycats wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 3:07 pm Guess Major Tom and Dan F didn't appreciate my song. I've been banned from the old AGF.
Thank you for the recipe. We really do travel down similar paths...I dabble a lot in alternate tunings...which has a lot to do with my love for Sonic Youth...and I’ve actually been playing my old, monolithic, black Agile AL-3100 that I keep permanently tuned to an interesting, very low C tuning: CFA#FA#D#, or sometimes I raise it to C#F#BF#BD#, which I use for heavy, ambient music. Obviously not a tuning Billy Gibbons would really play around with!toomanycats wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 4:02 pmThe last thread I started on the old forum was about ZZ Top's Afterburner album, so I had that 80s, pumping synth blues sound in my head and was consciously trying to mimic that vibe in a song. I used a Fender Strat for the clean tones and Gibson Les Paul for the dirty tones. Both were played through a 65 Amps London, the Strat going into the low gain input and the Les Paul into the high, with additional gain achieved using a Bogner Ecstasy Blue Overdrive pedal. The bass is a Schecter Diamond Series J-Plus. The synth is one of the presets in Logic.
It's in drop C#, meaning just the low E string is tuned to C#.

Thanks! Yes, stock paint. It’s the blue Liquid 3x P90 that Kurt carries. Funny you mention Corvette Stingray, because I actually call it “Gran Torino” after a royal blue mid 70’s Gran Torino’s Aunt & Uncle had! I loved smell of pleather in that car and how it added to the 70’s gas crisis!toomanycats wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 3:48 pmThat thing is gorgeous! Is the body the stock Rondo paint? What did it get, like 8 miles to the gallon? LOL. Imagine driving that car on the highway for any distance and not being able to go over 55 mph? Liquids are great modding platforms! They’re interesting as is, once you modify them, they’re even more interesting.JeffBeck wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 3:53 pmYou beat me to it. I saw that Liquid and was all "WTH?" THat ain't stock.toomanycats wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 3:29 pm

I remember during the ‘79 summer gas crunch, it couldn’t be driven because there wasn’t enough gas available to get it down the street. However, the seats were MADE for being a sweaty BeeGee with these ladies...toomanycats wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 4:03 pmWhat did it get, like 8 miles to the gallon? LOL. One of the great musical debates I have with myself is which is the best AC/DC album of all time. While very familiar with the Brian Johnson catalog, I'm very much a Bon Scott AC/DC fan, so, to me, the great trifecta of Let There be Rock, Powerage and Highway to Hell rule supreme and I can't pick between the three, depends on the day I guess.toomanycats wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 4:32 pm"I got myself a CadillacBubba Zanetti wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 4:17 pmI remember during the ‘79 summer gas crunch, it couldn’t be driven because there wasn’t enough gas available to get it down the street. That's a tough one, but if ya put a gun to my head I'd probably say Powerage.Bubba Zanetti wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2020 4:46 pmOne of the great musical debates I have with myself is which is the best AC/DC album of all time.
