Sioux City 1991 (Hard Rock)

So I've been threatening this for a few months and folks like @sabasgr68 & @golem have asked when I was going to start posting - so here is my first round.

Here is Sioux City's 1991 EP from my archives, to which I mixed in 1991 and remastered today. I think I helped them finish a few tracks before mixing and that might be me playing slide on "Attitude," as I am pretty certain that is my 1987 Marshall 5325 Silver Jubilee screaming away on some fill-in parts. Way different from the guitar player's Mesa Recto, which sounds wonderful to me.

I met the band through the lead singer Heather Thompson (Macintosh), who was a friend and in bands with me prior. I can't wait to send these to her. Incredible voice.

Again, this is part of the 'tape baking' and resto work I've been picking at.

@andrewsrea Could finally listen to the songs, and have to say that they all sound good to my ears. If anything, the only criticism would be that drums sound kind of low for the first 20 seconds of the track "Waiting", they are somewhat lost in the mix, but from the 21 second mark on, they have the right presence - to my ears, at least -. But apart form that, I like the mixing in general. I instantly bonded with "Waiting" and "Night Call".

That woman Heather Thompson didn´t end up with a sore throat? What a powerful voice! (BTW, what´s her relationship with Macintosh?)

I like that kind of rock. Guitars were great. I suppose they are not an active band these days?

Heather could sign like that all night long. I believe the tracks were recorded for a record label, who paid for the initial sessions. The guitar player (who also co-wrote the tunes) and the studio engineer did the producing, so the songs did not get a real producer's touch. So it was guitar prominent and Heather did not get the proper coaching, which would have been not to floor it all the time. And to change keys, as I believe the melodies and hooks of the songs are the same pentatonic scale.

'Macintosh' is her current husband, who I believe is a drummer - but not for this band.

Heather Thompson was the singer on all tracks. Never heard of Dirty Honey, but need to listen to them if you like them.

I'd say these tracks point out that you have to have a lot of performance talent, to get these results. The studio that did the tracking, did well with the guitars and bass, so-so on capturing the drums and vocals. I suggested they re-track the vocals in my studio, but they were concerned with legal troubles as the label owned the tapes and they basically took them long enough for me to mix and master the band a copy.

I have a lot of tapes of other artists , which were recorded in my studio my studio and were better captured, mixed and mastered. But, sounded mediocre because the talent and/or production wasn't supporting the material. Sioux City delivered the goods in the studio and live!
