Composing for movies and tv? THAT takes ALOT more chops than I think I have right now but it is most appreciated. I'll be 68 on April 17th...the clock is ticking.
I bagged playing guitar 40 years ago to get a career in IT, a future and was pretty successful. I DID do a stint of 3 years as an Asst. Engineer and as an Engineer at Wizard Stuios in Westchester County in NY in the mid 80's. Worked with Ian Hunter, Foreigner (4th album) and Peter Frampton who were all "locals" at the time. I learned ALOT but it was all Analog in those days. I'm trying to dust off the "Analog" cobwebs and apply them to the modern Digital Audio Workstation environment of today. It's actually not all that different except how you "route" things in DAW software.
That said, I HAVE been listening and taking classes online for Orchestrating...and I've been LISTENING to stuff, hence my SERIOUS absence the last 4-5 months. How is it structured, what makes up the parts of an orchestral, how do synths work their way into the picture, how to write and mix drum parts, etc. My CHALLENGE/PROBLEM is I'm NOT a pianist or keyboard player so I've been seeking out tools to bridge that gap.

I have ZERO formal music training but what I have been doing is watching ALOT of YT vids by the manufacturers to get my head around what their virtual instruments do...and scoffing some up when they're on sale.
THAT may be a plus in that I have no preconceptions and just play around until I find something that sounds good and go from there. The ONE thing I have learned is to START TRYING...that seems to be a big part of the battle. ATOP being intimidated and just JUMP IN. What the worse that can happen? If nothing else, I'm learning and having some fun at the same time. There is so much to get your arms around...Pro Tools, Songwriting, Arrangements, Virtual Instruments, etc. WTF?!?!?!?
It's taken me almost 5 years to get all the HW & SW together that I've dreamt of having and I'm finally there.
Back in the 80's the power and and virtual instruments I have available would have cost MILLIONS of $. I'm trying to do everything "in the box", have ZERO outboard gear other than guitars and a Katana amp that connects right into the PC when I think they'll play their parts.
In the grand scheme of things this is a relatively simple track that took ALOT of work to pull off.
@Narsh is a "hero" of mine. He kills it and his productions are flawless. My last step with this "tune", if it is one, is to learn how to "MASTER" the final Mixes. Icing on the cake so to speak. Then I can finally feel I kinda sorta definitely maybe somewhat know what I'm doing. LOL!
Years ago we needed a Yuge studio, Producers, Engineers, BIG budgets and record companies to deliver our music to the world. Now that has all changed and we can professionally do it from our houses and distribute over the Internets to BILLIONS of people for less than say $2-3K.
