There was an Osceola Inn in Dade City, Florida. I used to play there. It was an old historic place right in town but eventually they tore it down. It became quite the place to go drink adult beverages and watch live music in it's final years.

Great tune!

We've got a Mt Osceola. Its over 4000ft tall.

Nice guitar.

This is really about a bar in Osceola, New York, which is on the Tug Hill Plateau as your driving into the Adirondack Mountains. I like that people can associate it with other locations, that it’s abstract enough to be universal. Let the listener fill in the blanks as they like and imagine their own story.

But the song was literally inspired by a recent conversation with my brother. When we were kids there was a farmer that worked the land around my parents Summer cottage on the shore of Lake Ontario. Down the shore there lived an old lady who had once been a great beauty. She owned the farm and a lot of the surrounding land. The farmer and the older lady had had a romance when he was young, and people said he used to ride her on his motorcycle. The farmer got married, had a couple children, became a drunk, lost everything, and ended up as a bar fly, or possibly working at, the Osceola Hotel. As my brother was relaying these details to me I was thinking to myself, “This sounds like a country song.” So I wrote it.
