I got tested for COVID today, as part of the prep for minor surgery, Thursday!

Drive-in, windows UP, place ID against window pane as sign-in, get in line of cars , get to nurse station, one swab in each nostril, drive off.

So, the experience is quite simple, mundane, until you stop and think about the thousands who have died, and it gets more gloomy.

BTW, and unrelated: surgery is about fixing my "junk", barely peeing and mostly sideways... not very convenient!

I also had COVID testing a few weeks back pre-surgery. The first thing my wife said after we left, and she's a nurse on a COVID floor, is that they did the testing wrong. And good luck fixing your junk! I wish I could say I hadn't had surgery on my junk like that, but I was born with a congenital defect that caused something a bit similar to what you described (in effect if not the cause) and had to have surgery for it more than once. So when I saw that I know your pain, I'm not kidding.

Don’t understand the point.

That kind of test is only for those with active symptoms, which if you had them you wouldn’t be going to surgery.

But you do not have to have any symptoms to be tested.

Testing before surgery in a hospital is like having an in-line fuel filter before your precious injection system.

Why risk importing the disease when it is easy to screen out?

One also could be carrying without symptoms.

Better to be cautious and wrong, than incautious and wrong.

Update: tested negative.
Reporting for minor surgery at 6 a.m.!

And the surgery crew?

Actually, I had an other minor surgery a while back, and I was amazed by the six-person surgical crew getting together and running down an essential checklist, like 'What are we doing today?" "Which side?" "Surgical tools" etc.

Good Luck with the surgery. Hope it is quick, problem free, successful and has no negative side-effects of any type.

Surgery of this nature gives me the willies, but I hope everything goes well and you have a speedy recovery!

Just had shoulder surgery. Went hospital. Day before, they did a quick swab, I was negative, surgery next day.

I was told that I need work on my junk. However, my local hospital doesn't have a micro-biology lab so I am out of luck.

This is official: there will be NO PICS to this thread...!

If you are wondering why... er, nevermind.


Extra: Hospitals seem to use even more disposables than before, maybe on account of the virus situation?
