Some guy in Canada is selling a Chibson as real on Ebay. There are two days left for the auction and this thing has been bid up to $1000. The guys in "Gibson Owners Group" have been reporting this with no luck so far. Maybe if we bombard Ebay, they will get the message.

The listing says that the item is in North Haven, Connecticut, United States.

I'm certainly inclined to trust your judgement if you're saying it's a fake and the Gibson Owners Group has also weighed in on it.

But just out of curiosity, what is the tip off from the photos? If the horn and headstock aren't obviously way off, the things I then look for are lack of binding nibs on the frets, domed studs on the tailpiece, and a dovetail joint on the neck around the third fret and a two piece neck joint. If I've got the guitar in front of me, and if possible, I look at the truss rod route and nut, pull the rear access cover, and pull one of the pickups. These methods are pretty conclusive.

In the interest of protecting all of us from scams, what's the dead giveaway on this guitar from the eBay pics?

Definitely not as obvious as some, but some things that just look slightly out of place

Nut
Headstock and angle
Gibson logo
Frets and pickups seem wrong color
Tuners
Mismatched plastics for some reason

Not to mention the condition of the sofa, and the way in which the pictures are taken look sketch

There are no wings on the headstock. That should give it away as a fake right there. The numbers in the serial number are not aligned, the font is wrong for the serial number. They are stamped to deep, no fret nibs (a 2006 should have nibs), metric bridge, cheap-ass plastic nut, screws in the control plates are the wrong kind, truss rod cover is wrong, the screw placement on the pickguard is wrong........and I could be wrong, but I think a 2006 Les Paul Standard would have a ABR-style bridge set up, as opposed to a Nashville style bridge set up, in regards to the way it is seated into the body.

PsycoCid makes some good observations as well.

Yeah, it also seems like they are trying to hide things about the guitar with the way the photos are taken.

Pictures are terrible so you can't really say anything from them. Sellers feedback "2" tells me a lot more. If you are so worried, email Gibson direct, they have more clout to get any auction pulled. Spamming eBay with 50 requests does no good as it's most likely a robot who decides what is fake and what's not vs amount of commission they would make on a sale like that.

The listing you're looking for has ended.
This listing was ended by the seller because the item was lost or broken.

Well, its good that it is down one way or another. The guys in the Gibson Owners Group had said that they had already reported it to Gibson.
