It’s our wedding anniversary on Monday and I’ve brought Mrs G away to Burgh Island, off the coast of Devon, UK, for a surprise break.

Art Deco hotel built in 1929, and second home to Agatha Christie,

What a place!

Congratulations! :)

If memory serves, can't you walk to the "island" at low tide?

Great! But be careful!
After all, if Agatha wrote about the hotel, you could get killed there! :)

Yeah, I don't think I'd go to a hotel where murders were regularly written. I have bad luck.

But enjoy!

Well, the bar has been raised, fellas.

The ropes in the background of the champagne picture are there to keep out me and the other "lower third." Was the rose there or did you bring it?

Well isn't somebody posh. :D I've had a weakness for Art Deco for decades. If it was good enough for Aggie it must be a delight.

Thanks guys!

Rose was courtesy of the hotel, I told them it was a special occasion, so they were on it.

Today is the day, black tie dinner in the ballroom tonight. It’s quite some place and if you get the chance I’d heartily recommend it!

So jelly, looks awesome.

This thread title keeps making me think of a particular song, from a particular TV show Arrested Development.

Every time I see it, I want to post a video in here, but I don't want to distract from your beautiful vacation :)

Trying to wrap my mind around what it must be like for people who live and work on the island to know that every 12 hours they're cut off from the mainland. That must have some psychological effects, maybe cause some anxiety, and impact the way things are planned.

Now that's an interesting thought, and a beautiful view.

Maybe less anxiety though. That's been my experience with remote areas. It's the always on 24/7 places that feel more tension.

I'd be the first to admit, I would be a turd in a punch bowl at a place like that. I have class but it is lower than most. Have fun and congrats on the anniversary.
