One of my faves, the incredible John Sykes, has sadly passed.

It is undeniable that John Sykes was one of the greatest, most virtuosic, influential guitarist of the 80s. His aggressive blues/rock/metal riffs, wide vibrato, impassioned 32nd note runs, and Mesa Mark III tone are carved in stone, just as lasting as the monuments preserved in the Valley of the Kings.

Sykes bridged the gap between 50s Chicago blues, the British blues scholars of the late 60s, Peter Green, Thin Lizzy, and 80s schred. Sykes was a demigod!

Was shocked to hear this. I loved his work in Thin Lizzy. He really--briefly--invigorated that band, in my opinion. I do get the feeling--and I am totally speculating based on what I've read about him--that he was kind of restless musically. Not sure why that was. Loved his playing.
