With an incoming extension cabinet, I need to move two guitars currently stored hanging vertically over the amp getting the cab. I figured out how to make one of them hang diagonally and will need a horizontal hangar (like playing position).

Anyone have experience with horizontal hangars? Which ones you like, which ones to steer clear of?

I have never used one but all of my vertical hangars are String Swing and they are solid.

Cool..I need to maxmiize wall space and in 2025 plan to add 3 guitars and in my small living room alcove, one will necessarily need to hang horizontally.

I have a couple of options, $8 bucks or $30 bucks

I think I prefer the aesthetic of the cheaper one as it does not detract from the guitar itself.

I've bought about a half dozen or so Hang 'em High wall hangers over the years. They can be installed horizontally up to a pretty steep diagonal. One thing though, I'm not sure if the rubber sleeves are safe for nitro finishes:

Cool, coming back to USA in May '25 maybe grab a couple and throw into my luggage for the way back. They look sturdy

I have one of the string swing models and it seems to work just fine.

Out of curiosity, I just did a search on Ali Express and there were several similar wall hangers from $1-$8:

The difference between the cheap ones and the expensive ones may be nitro-safeness. I have no definite idea of course, but I thought Proline hangers were good and they were *not* nitro-safe.

That looks like it. Do they come in right handed?

I made that mistake with a couple of Studios on vertical wall hangers, now I've got two more repair projects. If these ones aren't nitro safe, the stock tubing can be replaced easily enough with some that it is

They do! So you won't have to additionally purchase a left-handed Phillips screwdriver...

Beware of the AliExpress hangers. Not sure which ones I bought but had a fairly lightweight SG hanging on one. One day noticed it was ready to break. The hanging part was ready to rip out of the back. No more hangers for me, in the case or in a floor rack.

Yes, 90% of the stuff on AliExpress is just a cheap copy of something with higher quality. Always beware.

@Tonray's Ghost and @tobijohn: Could one of you provide the mounting hole spacing on the lower Hang 'em High wall mount (the one with two holes)?

I can solve for non-nitro, by covering the rubber parts with micro-fiber towel pieces. That said, I have lots of nitro finishes (including ones I've painted with the very volatile old-school nitro) and have not had one of them get hosed by a guitar stand (knock-wood!).

The two mounting holes are 4.5" apart (2.25" from center), the actual dimensions of the lower wall mount piece are 8.25" x 1..5"

So, I guess one hole goes to a stud and the other a toggle bolt or a drywall molly?

I've been using 50lb self-tapping mollies into drywall for over ten years and nothing has ever pulled out...

Follow-up:

I bought two of the 'Hang Em High' hangers from Amazon and the instructions say: "not safe for Nitro Cellulose finishes."

That said, there were a lot of favorable reviews which said they have had Nitro finishes for years on these and no problems. Something tells me the company's warning is just an insurance policy in the remote case someone's finish gets harmed. My own insurance policy will be covering the rubber with old black dress socks.

The only gripe / warning is, the supplied drywall screws only protrude 1" when inserted in the base (1-3/4" screws). Which means with 5/8" drywall, only 3/8" of the skinny tip is gripping into the stud. For the hangars going into the stud, I am going to pre-drill and use 3" drywall screws. For the others, I am going to try the anchors supplied

I am going to hang them tomorrow and will take pics.

FWIW, I've never used the supplied anchors with any of the wall hangers. As I mentioned previously, I've always used self-tapping 50lb rated anchors. My outer walls are concrete block, and I initially used a masonry bit to hog out the block enough so that the hole was deep enough to accommodate the length of the anchor so that the anchor lip was flush with the drywall surface. However, since then I just clip off the skinny part of the anchor shaft so that it was short enough to be flush with the drywall (1/2" thickness with a slight gap between the concrete block and the furring strip). There are either two or three screws attaching the wall hanger base to the wall and I've had absolutely no problems with the wall hangers pulling out. If there happened to be a stud in that spot (mine are steel), I used an appropriately sized machine screw after drilling a hole through it:

I use the cheap $1ish ea hangers and no problems in 2ish years. I have a large pine board I screw into the studs then I hang the hangers on that board every 14-16".

I've never tried the horizontal hangers though but may one day for a space above my staircase.

I've used those anchors before, and they are among the easiest and most reliable to use. The ones supplied with the hangars are similar, but not the same and I do not trust them. I was told my basement was finished in 2001, which is at the height of the Chinese drywall debacle and considering how brittle my drywall is in my studio, I proceed as if my drywall is substandard. Those self-drilling type anchors are most lileky to just crumble the drywall.

So anywhere I can use a stud, that is my primary plan. The studs are 16" on center, which my plan is to hit one of the bottom holes and the single one which holds the neck, on a stud with a 3" Drywall screw. Then the one remaining bottom base screw will be a toggle bolt which can hold up to 85 lbs. However, the real weight that toggle can hold is dependents on what my inferior drywall can hold.

Why not just do a test run then? Install a hanger using the self-tapping anchors, borrow a guitar from @golem and see what happens....
