I smell a new band coming on

I thought I'd repost this as I think I might have been the last thread that was copied over to momo. ! it was alot of work and 2. It will document what will surely be an epic fail. Maybe someone can figure an easy way to copy over hbowner and DnD threads ?

I really am thankful this lockdown has had minimal impact so far on me. I have been spending all my worry on all the small biz owners and workers getting wiped out while we all dog pile into home depot and walmart. Anyway the biWalmart. For me has been no band time. I've offered to help my band get something virtual with jamkazam but very little interest. The drummer is older with health issues. He was the first to lockdown and now says he may not play with anyone for the rest of the year. So things aren't looking good there.
I've been making playing noises so the bass player tells me hes opening up and brings me in on a jam with a drummer last week. I do most of the singing which is a real push but good for me. It turns out real well so we do it again this wkend. Nice jams considering I'm singing. So for today me and my bass player setup something different. We bring in a drummer friend to play at my place because hes going stir crazy too. Hes been known to be a bit of a bam bam but we wanted to see him. Actually he's my first real drummer from 30 years ago. At the last min my bass guy asks to bring in his singer from his classic metal project. My voice was toasted from sat anyway so sure.
Well let me tell you this singer sounds awesome. Great high gain vox and a neat humble guy. And the drummer friend was just solid. On the money, killer dynamics, good signaling. And somehow everything I pull out of my ass is solid gold. Played a lot of the classic heavier stuff i just dont play at all recently. And not only do i pull it off but all of us seem to know it. No prep no playlist. Usually i start up a song, the band drops in, we run down a verse and by the turn around the singer has the lyrics looked up and off we go.
A few endings collapsed, a couple slip ups in structure. 5 songs in I'm calling my wife asking if this is as good as I'm hearing. 10 songs in shes calling saying she WANTS to come see this band play. I sing a few and this singer thinks my black crowes is great. He loves my playing and the setup. I ask how his throat is holding up doing ccr and zep. It's a loaded question because I tried singing a bit with their metal band. It was 2 guys with Marshall stacks on full with distortion pedals. I know when I tried they destroyed my voice trying to keep up and I could never hear myself. They were a 13 yr old me with an adult's gear budget. Singer says hes doing great because he can finally hear himself and hes not straining.
Everybody loves everything and everybody.
My tone and groove are just smoking hot. My main setup is my casino coupe and for rehearsals my vox vt40. I keep the gain down and it does ok. For this jam I figure we'll be running hotter so I use my somewhat neglected gibson lp cm. A 61 pickup iirc. Specs say I should like it but I've been meh on it recently. Well that cm found its niche especially with the hotter vox settings. We run about 5 hours with nothing but thanks and gratitude to each other and compliments and humble apologies. I have to say I have never felt this encouraged about a project before. So I've certainly jinxed it all talking about it but it doesn't matter I had to blather on anyway.. singer says hes off 2 weeks for a surgery and wants the setlist so he can start polishing and is realizing how much better he can have it. The bass player is figuring out how to make room by pulling out of 2 of his projects. And this is my first time being a head hunter. The only reason my bass player was staying in the metal project recently was the singer and the main reason they had the singer was at the bass players insistence. They were so clueless they didnt think the singer was good enough for them ?!?
Me and the bass player are already trying to picture how to market a mix of heavy jam, hard rock, classic metal mix groove band. But then again I never got very far marketing just another run of the mill, least common denominator, adequate vocals band either. I'll have to get some recordings. That should certainly curb my enthusiasm.

Well the new band is coming along. Not a perfect as hoped with diverging ideas and falling back to more tired oldies but still having lots of fun.

Best of luck to ya! I just fell out of another band of expert opinions. I know the right mix is out there someplace, but I’ll be damned if I can find it.
