Watched this documentary on YouTube over the weekend. For those of us/you that are interested in how records were made in the 70s, this is great, and it's pretty obvious where Lowe got his nickname (Basher).

Full disclosure--I'm a huge Lowe fan. One of the more clever lyricists and songwriters to come out of the UK, and just a stupid-talented guy.

This doc shows the mighty Rockpile in action in the studio, with Billy Bremner, (fantastic guitarist and vocalist), Terry Williams (went on to Dire Straits), and of course--Dave Edmunds. Also--ALBERT LEE turns in a blistering solo like it's nothing.

Look for a young Huey Lewis, and Phil Lynott in there watching in amazement, too. Also interesting to me is that at this point, Lowe was obviously pretty far into a period of alcoholism, which he thankfully overcame and luckily we still have him around.

I was fascinated by the video, and hope others enjoy it.

There was a dozen or so musicians, which I used to do pickup gigs with in the mid 80's. Someone would book a pub and throw a band of these folks together a few days before, without rehearsal. Typically, a three- or four-piece group and everyone got enough money cover their bar tab. We did lots of Lowe, Edmonds and Rockpile. 'Teacher - Teacher,' 'You Ain't Nothing But Fine,' 'I knew The Bride,' 'I Hear you Knockin' and 'Cruel To Be Kind' were staples.

One of the funniest things Lowe did in his career, in my opinion...

Good stuff. Huey and Lowe are about the same age I think. I was a Lewis fan first, and only rewound into Lowe's stuff later after I heard Huey's harmonica on a Lowe song and immediately identified it as Huey. Aside from maybe Stevie Wonder, Huey's the only harmonica I seem to recognize when I first hear it.
