Today's bug: a moth the size of a bat !
Next week I'll try to get some of the creepy venomous centipedes and the giant milipedes
The tropics is not the place to be if you are afraid of bugs !

I am sure the tropics have some serious creatures. In Florida we have the love bug. The absolute worse bug in the planet.

This was an off year for them. They made a showing in spring and again in October but it was very light compared to most years. Not sure why that is but probably weather related. We had some really cold weather early last year. I remember having a fire all the time Christmas week.

We got a couple inches of snow this morning and have had temps in the 20's at night so at least there are very few bugs around

The only bug in that weather is the flu bug.

Got these monster hornets, never saw them before. Emailed the picture to the state environmental dept, they said it's not the killer hornet variety.

Now I know you are exaggerating!!!
You might say:
"Up until this week it was actually not as hot at our Florida plant......"

Beautiful today high in the 70's. This is the time of year that reminds everyone of why we love it here. Of course bugs love it too.

They're leeches for sure....ask me how I know
This area where our housing development sits, used to be flooded rice fields and Lotus ponds. They typically use dredge from the Chao Praya river basin to fill in and develop land around Bangkok. We also have an epidemic of huge snails, so much that only certain plants can be used in the garden or the snails devour everything. The leeches no doubt live in water underneath the garden in drainage areas and during raining seaosn are carried or migrate up to the garden surface.

Some our resident evil snail population. We also have massive ones about 70% the size of your palm...nasty critters in rainy season they not only decimate the garden plantings but leave snail crap on every surface. When I need to service the water tank pump I need to brush away mounds of snail poop before I dare get my hands in there

Copper tape and a power source will keep the snails away.

Creepy Centipede..amazing Thailand
Correction: this is a millipede, while they do not bite they have some sort of skin toxin so you should not pick them up anyway
