Offer Up

I have never sold anything on OU but I recently saw a couple of things I would like to buy. I have an account because I did search for some furniture items a few years ago when we moved. I spotted a few items of furniture that we were interested in but could never get a response from the seller. Finally I just gave up. My buddy at work was telling about a guitar he saw on there and so it prompted me to scan the ads again but this time looking at guitars, amps, and other music gear. What I noticed is OU does not hit you regular email with a notification if someone answers a message. I have to log into the account and check the inbox. It is probably a setting but default must be no notification. There is a guitar I am interested in but I cannot get a reply from the seller. I have sent several messages and given my contact number each time to no avail. There is also an acoustic amp that I am interested in. The seller finally did call me last evening and I should be picking it up this afternoon.

It just seems that sellers are not that responsive to inquiries on OU. Anyone else experience the same situation?

I use Craigslist and Facebook when I need to sell. OfferUp had too many scammers, lowballers and tire kickers. Buying is a bit better experience because you can limit your inquiries to buyers with better ratings; and who appear to be more reliable.....ie you get to choose. The message system is not great and does not allow sellers to send more pictures. I have gotten some great deals off OfferUp so it is worth checking out. You may need to be more patient and persistent because often messages go unanswered or even seen because if their notification system. You pretty much need to log in on a regular basis.

That is what I coming to realize. I will pick up the acoustic amp in an hour or so. I really wish the guy with the Gibson would respond. I think I would love to have the guitar. For now he is saving me some coin with his silence.

I have used Craigslist with much success both selling and buying. There are occasional flakes and lots of scammers but they are easy to spot.

I really don't like Reverb now because of people wanting to kick the tires and maybe having do the whole return thing. I used to sell my guitars through my local music store but sadly Suzie got cancer and passed away so the the store is no longer there. I suppose Ill try Craigslist again as I really don't like online sales that much but Craigslist is a little more local so I feel ya there.

The amp transaction went well enough and the little Fender acoustic amp is pretty awesome. Not sure it sounds better than the Boss overall but it is much lighter in weight and I like the effects options better. It will be easier to lug if we do an acoustic gig.

Ou is sort of a mess overall. The user interface. The communication system and the sellers.
Yes i will ask a question or want to buy and either never get an answer or get an answer a week later. By then I'm not checking in so I miss answering back. Then repeat.

The guitar I was interested in is also listed on Reverb. The seller does not respond to offers there as well. Pretty sure the guitar has been sold of the seller met his demise.
