I like the motto:

RACING’S NOT JUST FOR RICH IDIOTS
Racing’s for all idiots. (This includes you.)

Hmm...the Northeast August race is two hours away.

EDIT: the rulebook is quite extensive and prescribe all matters of safety ,so there is a lot more to it that first appears!

That's one thing I liked about Pahrump NV we had a dirt track that anyone could enter anything that would run in, tons of fun.

They do a LeMons race at the quasi-local private track.

Looks interesting...see some folks selling stints in their cars to help cover the buy in.

I read the roll cage details requirements and it is not a small affair. I could see finding a way to generate a bit of cash. Not sure about the liability aspect though. Make friends with good welders!

Closest way to experience some of it would be corner-working. I have done that with vintage motorcycle racing, it is work, but a lot of fun - got great sidecar parade laps once!

Regardless of whether it is crapcan racing, it IS still racing. You don't want to watch someone die out there. The safety needs to be rigorous, or it won't happen.

Gambler 500 rallies are supposedly a hoot. And if you want to just drive fast in a controlled environment, SCCA autocross is great.

I did that once and got some practice laps in a brutal champion gt350. He had a Nascar transmission that half the time he never even used the clutch. And when he punched it felt like it had all 4 wheels trying to dig holes in the pavement and vacuum you to the seat.
