Favorite Beer poll

What is your favorite beer? Back story: I was prescribed a med in 2001 and the Doc requested I not consume alcohol. I was just an occasional social drinker on weekends so it was easy enough to comply. After a year I no longer was taking the med but I continued to be a non-drinker for many years to come. I would always joke that I would start back when I retired. In 2020 I decided I was pulling the plug on full time work so I started to enjoy an adult beverage socially. When I stopped in 2001, Yuengling was my beer of choice and had just arrived on the scene here in Florida. So I picked up where I left off and got me some Yuengling.

Fast forward to last summer. I was in the local Mexican restaurant eyeballing the beer choices and I noticed a dark beer made by Modelo. I like Amber Bock and dark beer in general so I thought I would give it a try. I ordered dark Modelo but I did not realize the waitress did not know the term "dark". She promptly brought me a Modelo Especial. I did not protest and took a big swig. It became my no.1 beer with that first taste. When the waitress asked if I wanted another beer I said Si, Modelo Negra por favor. While the Negra was good I actually like the Especial better.

I have others I like as well and here is the ranking order:

1. Modelo Especial
2. Yuengling
3. Amber Bock
4. Stella Artois
5. Shiner Bock (when I can find it)

So how about you guys, what is your beer of choice?

When it's hot here, and cutting the grass, i like a Yuengling, fairly local, i think the old brewery is in Wilkes Barre. The bottles are better than the cans but the price is higher. Years back it was Coors, Coors light, occasional Michelob and before (80's era)that was Genny, Miller or Rolling rock. We polished off so many kegs back in the woods every weekend, when we turned 21 the bars were no big deal, we were well seasoned.

My favorite ever was a home brew I named "Black Betty". We cooked it up by modding a recipe for a traditional Black Lager by adding nearly an extra pound of 2-row chocolate malt and something else. We emptied that keg faster than any before or since, and somehow we lost the recipe.

Off the shelf, there are 2 I buy that have hints in the direction of Black Betty. One is "West O Coco chocolate stout", and the other is "Shake Dark Chocolate Porter".

I like many IPAs, Victory being my favorite when I lived 25 minutes from the brewery in Downingtown, PA. Now in Missouri, Voodoo Ranger became my go-to.

Being oringinally a PA guy, Yungling Lager was a staple and as of three weeks ago, is available in Missouri. I had to teach the lady at the checkout how to pronounce it. She phonetically called it 'youngling' and I said "pretend it is from China: ying-ling"

Sadly, beer was putting the weight on me when I retired and I went semi-Keto (50 grams of carbs per day) in 2021. I only partake on special occasions. Twice a week I'll have a glass of bourbon or a Martini.

When I drank, it was Sleeman Original Draught.

A Kawartha Lakes Raspberry Wheat was nice on a hot night.

And Creemore Springs lager always tasted right.

Oooh! Beer snob thread! Let's see:

Our local brewery (Bravery Brewing) makes a ton of fantastic beer, but they have two that are absolute favorites: Their Blackberry Double IPA, and their Oktoberfest.

Out here on the West Coast, Karl Strauss Brewing makes Red Trolley, a fantastic Irish Red. Even better if you can find it on tap. And any IPA from Firestone Walker is great, but I'm a big fan of their Luponic Distortion series.

Outside the West Coast, gotta go with Three Floyd's Zombie Dust, out of Munster, Indiana. Quite possibly one of the best IPA's ever made.

I normally have maybe 1 beer every couple of days, I'm not a beer snob as I'll still drink boat beer when I am back in Michigan, but if I have a choice I will take a nice IPA, Stout, or sometimes a Sour over an American adjunct lager. I just drink what I am in the mood for, or whatever goes best with a meal.

Wilderness Brewing is my favorite brewery these days.

The Brew Pub is conveniently located near where my dad and his wife stay the winter.

My Go-To is the Wilderness Refuge IPA.

@SamIV , you and I have the same tastes in beer. All the years that I did not drink I still loved beer with food so I would drink NA beer. My favorite was always O'Doul's Amber but it good really hard to find. I am not even sure they still make it. In end it was Genesee NA that was the best to me. I wrote the Genesee brewery and email to tell them how much enjoyed their NA offering. They wrote me back and said my note had made their day. They took my email around and read to the employees. No, I did not get any free product.

My brother-in-law worked for them as a chemical engineer for 3 years. I forgot you are from that neck of the woods. You are Reading area right? No Reading Premium on your list?

Yuengling is America's oldest brewery. It is an iconic beer. When it first arrived here in Florida around 1999-2000 I purchased a 6-pack of bottles out of curiosity. The bottles were a different color back then, sort of a blueish green. At the time Amber Bock was probably at the top of the list. Yuengling immediately took over. It did not take long before Yuengling was a big hit in Florida. They purchased the brewery across from Busch Gardens where I think they used to brew Old Milwaukee, Stroh's, Schlitz and maybe some others. Yuengling is a major player in the beer world here in the US. Even as all the micro breweries with their IPA's etc., have been going crazy, Yuengling continues to thrive. Why? Because it is good beer. I say Modelo is first but the difference is really negligible, I will drink either any time. I think I just like saying "Modelo" better. LOL

I usually like a good hefeweizen or octoberfest, on tap if possible.

There's a Brewpub and brewery here in northern Utah called Red Rock. They are small, but always come up with good stuff. They have good seasonal beers, my favorite being Nuevo Leon. It's only for Cinco De Mayo, and only sold at the downtown SLC brewery location. It sells out fast. From the website: "Nuevo León is brewed with salt, coriander and lime peel and lovingly aged for one year in tequila barrels. At 5.1% ABV." Their Zwickelbeir and Grand Bavaria are also great. They bring out a spiced ale for Xmas time called "Griswolds." It's an 8.5%.

My fave small brew of all time was Spotted Cow, a cream ale only available in Wisconsin.

Staple beer: Shiner Bock

Another mention for Shiner Bock. I wish it were more readily available here.

Has anyone tried "Next"? It is a carb free beer by Anheuser-Busch. I have been trying to lose weight since my heart issues so I gave it a go. Not much flavor to it, just crispiness and alcohol. Not bad with a meal.

BTW I have lost right at 50 lbs.

Same as I only know a couple of beer names mentioned in this thread, I´m sure few if any of you would know about beers here.

Not a heavy drinker myself, I´m happy with two beers for the whole party or gathering or whatever.

Anyway, I like:

Polar Pilsen
Solera
Brahma
(although I´d drink any brand available).

Any homebrewers around?
Some of these folks make stunning stuff - used to hang out on a HB forum, and our local meets - five all-grain kettles going at the same time in the yard, sampling previous brews, busy day!
Back to the thread: I try to drink local, even though some stray form the classics and we end up with blueberries, citrus, pumpkin... gimme a well made wheat or pilsner, that's not that damn difficult.

Beer trivia: Your grandpas (or great_) would tell you about the times when local breweries owned ballparks in metro areas.

I am not a fruit beer kind of guy. I like it a little bitter and tasting like beer beer. Of course if you have drank a Yuengling, Amber Bock or Modelo you already know that. They always ask if I want a lime when I order a Modelo and I decline. They never ask that question for Yuengling. I thing they do that for Corona as well. It must be a Mexican tradition. I like lime in my vodka or gin and tonic or a rum and coke (also called a dum and coke).

Actually, thanks @tonebender, I used to drink Negra Modelo at times, in the past, so I should have some again!

Hey another mini rant, beside fruity beers: people drinking fancy, expensive beers, like super-hoped IPAs and such, please, please, drink it out of a glass, otherwise you are missing 3/4 of the flavor, and probably pissing off the brewmaster who spent good money on top quality hops! If you don't believe me, just try with and without, see for yourself.

All these different beers being mentioned reminded me of a bar in State College, PA, which was called 'Zeno's', which carried like 250 types of beer from around the world. They had a program with a punch card, called 'Around the World in 80 Beers'. Basically. you got your card punched for having a bottle of beer from a new country. If you got to 80, you got an engraved brass plaque on their wall. I was poor at the time and only got to maybe 20.
