Very instructional on several points about how to track and arrange guitar parts.
I'm struck by how skeletonized the guitar track is in general. A lot of the time Lukather is only playing part of the melody or phrase. It's only because I'm familiar with the full blown production of "Africa" that I could follow what he was playing and where it fits in.
The short, punctuated heavy electric guitar riff at the end of the chorus has such distinctive JB sound to my ears.
The overall variety of tones and textures on this one single track, both acoustic and electric, is amazing. The way Lukather brings all of these voices together at around 3:10 is brilliant. It really brings the song to an emotional peak and musical summation.
My favorite Lukather guitar track is the end solo of Lionel Ritchie's "Running With the Night." Apparently he improvised it all the way through in one take.

Now I know why I like that outro so much. I didn´t know it was Lukather.
