Going on 45 minutes now my neighbor has been going nuts with his stupid f'ing planer in his driveway. Annoying the ever loving hell out of me and I am sure every neighbor within 3 houses in every direction.

I am seriously considering going over there. It is so damn loud and my kids are finally asleep...

The older I get the less I can tolerate.

In my neighborhood I get leaf blowers on all sides all day. As soon as 8-10pm rolls around the blowers are in the mall parking lot right behind me. All night. Then the cycle repeats. Oh, in this town you're allowed to start blowing at 7am too. I've become pretty fucking critical of them the last 3 yrs.

Dont respond with negativity that will cycle right back. The neighbor may just be a $%&&^# who doesnt know better. He could be in a bind, and he's pushing the ordinance limits?
Whats the ordinance for noise? If its 10 PM, your just going to stir tension that will build on you, and he may be noisy more often if he's a @#$%^&.
If he's after noise ordinance hours, let the police do the talking and let him wonder who it might be who complained. He'll then have to accept that everyone around might be pissed at him for such. yet he wont know. And it'll bug him more. Just my opinion.

Crank up the 50w and have at it.
Everyone is awake anyway......

But, ya if the ordinance is 10pm, you really cant do much.

Here in the Appalachian Mountains between NC and TN we would just get a baseball bat and go explain why that it's not a good idea for him to run a planer that late. :D Sorry I couldn't resist @honyock I do believe I would have a calm word with him about keeping my children awake on a school night and see if he'll get a clue. If not then he's not anyone you should care about offending and call the police I'm sure unless you live in a very rural area there is most likely a noise ordinance. If that doesn't help then get your old friend Mr. Louisville Slugger to give you a hand.

It is 8pm for excessive noise here, they finally stopped about 9:15...

They have been doing this for half a dozen weeks now a few days at a time, if it isn't the planer, it is a cutoff wheel & banging on metal plates with a hammer until 10pm or later

I am all for DIY, but last night was the worst they have been. I don't work on my truck with air tools at night even though I would love to, because I try to be a good neighbor.

I did send a message via the non-emergency email at the local PD just asking if it was a reasonable gripe for future reference.

A planer - whoever's operating it knows exactly how loud it is. So if he's not bothering to think about the impact to neighbors at that hour, he's just a bad neighbor. I wish I had a story relating how to turn a bad neighbor into a good one, but I just don't. Sounds like you've been more than reasonable.

Im sorry for your situation.

I bought the delapitated house next to me for 6,000$, at bank auction. Now I dont have neighbors to that side. It was the only troubled house in the immediate area. Cars full of teenagers come and going ( supposed drug sales) , backyard was a sea of garbage bags. Last tenant was burning the panelling for heat, and once water froze and burst, (destroying the interior) ...he was crapping in the tub for another month.

That tenenat did me a huge favor...he ruined the already questionable house. Distant owner didnt want it, the bank whom it defaulted to didnt want it. No bigshots turned up for the "must sell" auction. Musty, it was.
I am slowly renovating it. Will eventually only rent to friends.

Good luck. Maybe cops will sort him out.

Welcome to rural Thailand...this pic is not an aberration but the norm:

Luckily not my neighbor but a friend's area up north...complain too loudly and get a guy with a swinging machete at your front door..

He does he is just a jackass that likes to do it in the middle of the driveway with no sound block pointed directly at my kids bedrooms.

I think they are doing some sort of backyard setup/gazebo and 3 seasons room thing.

I did my good deed yesterday, helped a lady load a 50lb bag of flour into her car at Costco while I struck out getting a pumpkin pie.
