Who would imagine a Russian surf rock band? Not me. Yet this week I am suddenly binge watching this band I've never heard before... They're called Messer Chups. Anyone ever heard of them before?

Never heard of them until now, but I like them.
As far as the Russian surf rock thing, it sorta makes sense to me. Surf rock was at it's peak in the 60s. At that same time America was engaged in the space race with the USSR (Notice that Sputick sound at the beginning of the tune). An entire generation of Americans grew up with this fun soundtrack of surf music playing on the radio, while at the same time the very real possibility of nuclear war between the two world superpowers loomed in the background. So yeah, sunny California surf music and the Russians are related, in a weird way. The tune you posted sounds like it could be in an Austin Powers movie, which again, plays upon the cultural/political landscape of the 60s.
Good stuff. Thanks for turning me onto it.

Yes, it is absolutely a throwback to those times with a twist. They also lean into zombies and other horror/sci-fi fun. The origins of the band name I'm not sure of. Messer is German for sword, and chups sounds like it originates from chupa (as in Chupacabra), chupa being Spanish for suck. I've never done surf music, but thought about it because it's fun. A few surfy phrases have made it into my music, and each one makes me smile.
