Scanning?

Anyone have a great way to scan a pick guard to create a very accurate 3D model? Yes, I am considering CNC'ing a few. My flatbed scanners impart shadowy wierdness scanning black pick guards so I can't trust the lines they capture.

Do you have a Maker Space near you? They not only have the equipment you likely need but also have people who teach you how to use the equipment (and often that's a requirement for letting you use said equipment). I think there are multiple ways to do what you want but a 3D scanner is certainly the one that comes to mind. If all you need is the outline, then why ask about a 3D scan?

I didn't necessarily mean a 3D scanner, 2D is fine for a pick guard. I've made 3D models from 2D scans before with great success, it just doesn't work for this case. It's too big for the scanner bed, and the material makes the scan distort). The Maker Space thought is a really good one. There are 2 in my town, and one of them is much better equipped than I am. I haven't been there since well before COVID, but definitely a possibility.

I had better luck tracing the pickguard and then scanning the trace, rather than scanning the pickguard itself

Make a "photo print" and then scan it?

You can also make it with real photo paper. I have a number of old photography reference books that may have hints on best way to do that.
