Incoming new laptop for spouse, factory Windows 11 Home.

I am reading best practices on how to do initial setup,.
It seems Microsoft likes/requires you to use a Microsoft account (existing, or new), which provides some new benefits like encryption and alternate login methods, like face, fingerprint, that sh^t.

Minor issue I have is, the main user account is admin level, apparently.
In the past, I usually set up computers with main user as Standard User, and Admin account only used for maintenance or troubleshooting, and it has worked well.

What's a dude with a Dell to do?

Yeah, I think they're doing that with Windows 10 now too. Here's a trick I saw when looking into it, might work if you haven't already kicked through the setup:

Only other options I can think of if you have to use Windows would be to hit up one of the cheap licensing sites, and see if you can buy an Enterprise version of Win 11. It doesn't do that, since corps don't want that crap...

Edit: forgot about the admin account mention. You may have to switch it around once you get it setup. Create a new Admin account, give it administrator rights, login as that account, then remove admin rights from the original account.

You should still be able to set up an "offline account" for the admin account, and then if you'd like to you could do a fully set up account for your wife, sans admin privileges. I'll try to check on my laptop tomorrow.

Maybe I will let it follow the flow of standard install.
Recovery tools are pretty well-behaved these days, and this is a home mixed entertainement machine, not a critical work system.

EDIT to add:
Install was smooth, except the the Dell laptop needed a gazillion updates, including Dell and Intel FIRMWARE, sheesh..
Even in the Home version there is a provision to make additional user admin - I do not know if I can downgrade initial signee as Standard.
