Supposedly it takes an average of three years to mentally shift gears into retirement mode.
That is when you are no longer in a hurry whenever you get behind the wheel, etc.

I turned 50 recently and think forward to what that day will look like, hoping it's on my own terms as much as possible.

Congratulations! Friday the 12th is my last day of full time employment. I turned in my notice this past Monday. After a break I will be working 3 days a week for the firm I started with. Full circle of life. Not sure how long I will do part time but until the end of the year seems feasible. I too feel calm about the decision.

Congrats! I have been retired for the past 13 years. I always say it is the best job I have ever had, just took a long time to get it. Took only one day to shift gears into it.
