BBC News Report on the Mazda NPR Bug

My 2017 Miata is suffering from this except I'm in Floriduh and my local NPR station is on 89.1.
The "infotainment" system constantly reboots and takes you to 89.1 FM (the local NPR station.)

My 2019 Mazda6 does not have the problem.

That's freakin hilarious.

I miss my Miata more than any other car, too

Yes, you would be well advised to leave the politics behind when coming to AGF.

Is there any indication that something got automatically updated on the car? Other work?
(I had a body shop fry a Nissan beloved keyless entry system by welding with battery still connected!)
Very long shot: could there be a remote relation the the 3G band going dark?

Do you dare invoke a full reboot by taking the battery off?

I've not done anything in the way of troubleshooting. It is due for a service and I'll take it to the dealer next week and let them.
It just rolled over 5000 miles this week.

Where software is involved, yes. For example, it might use different configurations depending on the identified network upon booting.

Weird. My son has a 2017 Mazda 3, but he hit a deer a couple weeks ago and it's been in the shop. I wonder if his will be locked to it when we get it back? LOL

Hard to say, but I'm expecting Mazda to have to do a recall because it is affecting 2014-2017 model years.
I dunno if they have a fix for it yet?

So hilarious. So ridiculous. I am hating more and more the idiotic ovrengineered electronics in everything. My van with the nav system that sucked 10 min after new but defaults so the radio in never available. And all the stupid useless buttons what's the 1 button that stopped working? The on that let's it change to radio display. The auto dark mirrors that are always too dark and need to be turned off even at night. But of course no mp3 cds and no Bluetooth nor audio in jack even though that was available many years before this van.
Or my other car with the cd mp3 aftermarket. It can do everything except spit out the damn cd. At least I'm stuck on soundgarden and can still bluetooth. But of course the big prob there is all the damn electronics drain the battery every few days if I don't start it. I'm really hating tech more ad more all the time.

Well, I had it serviced today and they replaced a chip (and charged me $399.99 for the new chip) so it is working properly.
I'm saving all the documentation in case there is a recall I can probably (maybe?) get a refund?

Scan the work order for part numbers involved, and share.
Some DIY guys may benefit.

This may be already on some Mazda forum, somewhere?

BHP1-66-EZ1N
That one ONLY works in the MX-5 (Miata)

Interesting part.
Is your NAV system virgin again (no saved addresses), by any chance?

Very common way for automakers to put a lot of stuff.... on a volatile memory medium?

EVERYTHING about the infotainment system was returned to the factory defaults right down to the preset "buttons" for radio stations.

What van is this? Car stereos are usually easily replaceable with one from a wrecker.
