Not surprising this was missed by the staff, as a recent trip to the local Guitar Center to use up a Christmas gift card revealed that the early 20 something, kool-aid colored hair employees are pretty doped up and most likely suffering from congenital idiocy to begin with.

Heck, if I could land an N4 for that price, let alone the first one, I would be stoked.

That’s what happens when you pay staff as little as you possibly can and then treat them like trash. Any shop that cared would spend time to figure out what they were buying and selling.

LOL! My last purchase at GC required 4 employees to figure out how to make the register work for a credit card purchase. I don’t think any of them were remotely sober at the time which made the experience more entertaining than annoying.

As for GC, there's one about 5 minutes from my house. I avoid going there because the employees tend to be so toxic. It really would be better if they just had robots to help people.

(That being said, there is one cool kid at their repair desk who fixed something for me, did it quickly and efficiently, and then didn't even charge me for it. I gave him a nice tip.)

It has been quite a few months since I caught any GC Used deals, but I agree it's worthwhile to watch. Like everywhere else, prices have been up and selection down lately from my experience. I have painlessly returned several that weren't good guitars (or weren't good for me), and the keepers have been really good deals. Nothing quite like the above, but who knows...

I forget his username here, but we have one dude (here and on TGP) who regularly grabs great deals from GC used.

The GC here in Tampa has some seasoned veterans working there. I have been dealing with the same guy since the store opened. I usually deal with no one else no matter the department when I make a purchase. Same for the Lakeland store. Others I have been in do not fair as well. It may come as a surprise but there may not be a lot of seriously knowledgeable mature music gear experts available for hire everywhere they have a store. Very few young people would consider a retail music store sales associate as a career field. My guy in Tampa does and he is good at it. I suspect a considerable percentage of folks that walk in the front only deal with him when possible as do I. I have actually left if he is not there and come back when he is. If there is something I want to order I let him do it to get the commission. Cost the same to me and he benefits. It seems to do quite well for himself. The Sam Ash in Tampa is similar, several guys have been there forever. It all depends on the location. I'd speculate that on balance the stores I have mentioned are probably exceptions to what is the norm.

It seems like good stuff shows up in waves. I check it fairly often when I’m bored and see the same tired inventory still there. Then a new load arrives and quickly disappears. If I had a wad of money waiting to scoop deals, there are so many things I would have grabbed over the past year. That’s just my impression anyways.

I loved the story. Good research pays off. That’s how I discovered a couple prototype Carlsbro amps from England in a massive stack of lesser China made things being sold by UBuyGuitars. Who knows what else they had mixed in there. They didn’t seem to discerning about the value of much.

Plus I bought a working, hand built (not expertly made but good enough), fender 5e3 “clone” in an empty 2x10 for $30. Crazy. It may not have been a prototype or a wild story behind it, but it became my go to gig amp.
