Take this job and shove it....

...well, at least after 2 weeks and you work me to the bone transferring all my duties to people without the proper skills to do them :-)

I've seen more change in my career of the past 2 years than I ever care to again. Laid off from a 20 year career in August 2019 ( documented here and thanks for the support! ). 6 month consulting position after that, then hired in a completely new field ( healthcare ) and 3 different jobs with 3 different supervisors over 12 months. I will pick up my 1 year anniversary pin when I go in and drop off my laptop and stuff in 2 weeks ;-)

New Gig: Been in the works for several months and one of those "out of nowhere" opportunities. I will be moving again into a completely new field ( BioPolymer Engineering and Production ) as a Digital Manager for North America for a company based out of Norway, that happens to have their US HQ about 3 miles from my house. I'll actually be going back to an "office" too for the first time in about 2 years, I will have to check and see if my truck still runs! Lots of unknowns but more $$, more vacation, and probably some travel too.

Put in my notice today and the hammer has already fallen with the "transfer of duties" work. It's kind of funny to watch peoples reactions when you list all the things you do that no one else knows anything about.

Nice! Congrats! I just started a new job this week. Still don't have my computer or badge hence why I'm extra active on the forums (also TGP, TDPRI, and Strat talk where I'm razzing people who tell me I don't need locking tuners when I asked about them).

I just transferred after 18 years to another tenant activity on base here. Same pay, more room to advance, but it's another world, nicer bosses, more perks. I've found out more than once you have no idea what it's like when you are stuck in 1 place. Opportunity knocks go for it. I may not retire in 2 years now as I was planning.

Congrats. Sounds like a good new opportunity. All the Norwegians I know are excellent folks. Their national systems seem to work well for them, generally.
Last march I switched from an organization I had worked for starting in 84'. Feels great.

I am Swedish by descent on my father's side of the family and they still didn't hold it against me ;-) I can still remember going to my uncles house for lutefisk and lefse on Christmas. Lefse is great, lutefisk is somewhat like fish jello.

I will have a direct report to Norway and a dotted line to the CEO of the stateside operations ( who is Italian ironically ).

Pending the concept that travel will at some point return to normal, I will be making an extended trip to Sarpsborg, which is their HQ and not too far from Oslo for my orientation.

Congrats! I am coming up on 14 months in my current gig. It’s refreshing to finally discover a workplace not dominated by destructive internal politics. My advice to anyone not happy at the moment to start looking and make a jump. Good employers are currently looking for good people and are willing to open the pocket book to get them. With inflation, you are going to need big raises or you will need to job hop just to keep even, so make sure you get one or the other.

I would second that notion. I've been actively in the job market for a couple of years now and the demand for good people you hear about is very real. Part of the problem though is that there are still a lot of sub-par candidates so companies are (rightly so) still doing due diligence in their searches. The search process I went through before I was offered the position I just accepted took over 4 months, multiple in - person meetings and even a psychological exam and that was prior to even getting an offer.

It's still easier to get more money by moving too, because companies know most people aren't willing to give up their job or leave due to salary compression. So from a percentages standpoint it's still a better investment for them to spend the big bucks recruiting and do just enough to keep the existing employment base happy...enough. Or give them other non-monetary benefits like work at home/hybrid options or things like that.

Congrats! It sounds like your forward vision has payed out off. Best of luck in the new year!

My family made some big changes this year for so many reasons. My wife left her staff RN position in a PICU, and now we are doing travel contracts as I homeschool my son on the go. It’s been working out just fine and the pay is outrageous. I’m glad we jumped when we did.

You have a massive collection of Ole and Lena jokes ahead of you.

"Other duties as assigned" are taken for granted until the assignee leaves. 'Sounds like we've both been there. I'm happy for you and your new job. You'll do well, I'm sure.

** Possible Insulting Remark Alert ** I'm Norwegian through-and-through but listening to a Scandinavian accent is like nails on a chalkboard to me. It's torture.

That said, best of luck!
