This show has gone to the dogs!

Funny picture somebody took at last night's gig. That Labradoodle's name is "Teddy." Though it may appear that he's appreciating our performance, that's not the truth of the matter. Teddy loves beer, which I found out the hard way by leaving my full glass on the floor. This booze hound is just waiting for somebody to slip up so he can chug one.

What’s the drinking age in dog years?

Well, if one human year equals seven dog years then three would be the max drinking age for dogs.
Causes me to remember that I once knew a guy who died of alcoholism in his 40's who had a collie cross named "Linda."
I am here to tell you that one of the funniest things I've ever seen was a drunk dog.
And probably the saddest thing I've ever seen is a dog with a hangover.

That's the usual rig I use when I play without a drummer. The owner of the dog is behind the singer playing a cajon, which a 10 watt tube amp has no problem getting over the top of.
Guitar → BOSS TU-3 tuner → Silver Pony (BYOC Klon clone) → Bogner Ecstasy Blue OD → MXR Script Phase 90 → Chase Tone Secret Preamp → Blackstar Studio 10 6L6 (modified with Celestion Greenback)
I set the Blackstar Studio 10 6L6 relatively clean, which is a superb tone for the twangy stuff I need to do. The Bogner Ecstasy Blue is like a Plexi in a box, so I engage that to get my Marshall sound. I then use the Silver Pony to push the Bogner for my goosed Plexi tone. The Secret Preamp at the end of the chain makes everything fuller, wider, more 3-dimesional.
I know you got a bum Blackstar Studio, and I'm so sorry about that. I will say that the one I have is a workhorse. I've easily used it for 150 + gigs in the last year and it is 100 % reliable working musicians tool. When I first got it I did notice that it gets quite hot, which from what I understand is common with single ended amps. The couple times I've had to sit on top of it my fanny got pretty warm. I haven't had to change the single 6L6 power tube or 12ax7 preamp tube yet, though I keep spares on hand just in case. Considering that the average time this thing stays on at a gig is about four hours, and that I always put it in standby during breaks, it has operated for many hundreds of hours without a hitch. There are some scuffs and dings on the tolex, which does make me wish Blackstar had put corner protectors on it; and the leather handle is also becoming slightly frayed; but I can't really complain, considering that the amp has already paid for itself many times over.

We need to know your secrets, do you leave the EP3 preamp/ Chase tone on all the time?

I leave it on all the time, slightly above unity gain. It's different than a clean boost. It adds a tad of volume, but also makes everything more clear, while imparting a subtle musical coloration. It's easier to see what it adds when you turn it off rather than when you switch it on. I can't see ever not using one of these at the end of my chain going forwards.

That's what i thought. They are based on the old Echoplex preamp from the 70's and sold under a few different names. Page, EVH, EJ, early Lynch, Brian May, Judas Priest all supposedly used one on all the time.

I would have grabbed another Blackstar but they didn't have anymore "open box" or floor models in stock. It was a good amp, for sure.
