Somebody did a pretty good job relicing this toddler.

For centuries, it was all about safely getting the patina off of your precious silver. Now this?

I don't understand the point of taking a coin that was minted in 2013 and making it look like it's been buried underground for 100 years. At least with a relic'd guitar, you can't tell when it was made at a glance. I've heard of coin collectors un-tarnishing old coins, but not dirtying up new ones. What's the purpose of that? As soon as someone looks at the date, they're going to know how old it is. Are "dirty coins" the new trend in coin collecting?
Finally escaping the People's Republic of Kalifornia!

I'm lost what the heck is a "Relicer" and can it turn a one dollar bill into a one hundred dollar bill?

Just saying . . .
"According to Title 18, Chapter 17 of the U.S. Code, which sets out crimes related to coins and currency, anyone who 'alters, defaces, mutilates, impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales, or lightens' coins can face fines or prison time."

I just don't get the whole relicing thing—a new model guitar with 50 years of fake wear shouldn't fool anybody, surely?

If the antiquing of the coin/medal is done right, it looks great!

I think the operative word there is "can". There's also this bit, written in regard to one of those penny-smushing machines:toomanycats wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 4:24 pm Just saying . . .

As you are already aware, a federal statute in the criminal code of the United States (18 U.S.C. 331), indeed makes it illegal if one "fraudulently alters, defaces, mutilates, impairs, diminishes, falsifies, scales or lightens" any U.S. coin. However, being a criminal statute, a fraudulent intent is required for violation.
If you or anyone else wants to pay $50/ounce on silver, tell me what you want and I'll tarnish them up for ya.Frozensoda wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 2:06 pm https://www.landisstudios.net/product-page/skull

I'm not hollerin at you, just pointing out $50/ounce is a really good return on investment (for me) even at todays silver prices. I did okay about 15 months ago until they ran out of available Ag. I just grab a roll of Eagles every year for stocking stuffers, this year is going to be a little hard to swallow.
