Let's talk about cables.

So, cables sure do come in handy huh?
Well I need to get some new instrument cables, patch cables, and maybe a speaker cable.

Should I order the stuff to just make everything the lengths and specs I need?

I used to get planet waves cables but I don't even think they still make anything lol. So what cables do you guys use?

I'm probably gonna go for:
A 5' - 6' instrument cable straight to straight.
A ~10' instrument cable straight to right angle.
Two or 3 little patch cables for my pedals and maybe future pedals.
A 3' speaker cable right angle to right angle.

I like the solder-free george-l's for pedal board stuff. Easy to fix a problem, but few problems have occured. and I've never used them for guitar to amp.
I made a bunch of my own soldered cables, w/neutrik tips, wasnt too long and I have a bunch I need to resolder. Pilot error probably.

While more expensive cable options research is described often as rabbit hole, it sucks getting a cheapo and having it crackle within weeks or a few months. I would consider dumping the money into some brand that has lifetime warranty, and good reviews.
Its hard. It can be very expensive. George -L's are nice due to quick fix, they are low capacitance, for better or worse.

I don't know what you mean about Planet Waves not making anything but my fav instrument cables are the predecessor to these https://www.musiciansfriend.com/accesso ... r1|ClickEV, the earlier version was a little more streamlined, less steam punk looking. And my fav locking tuners are their auto-trims.

No more worries about amp noise if I need to plug in after the amp end is already plugged in, just mute the cable! Handy for using headstock tuner too. And auto-trims! Fast, tool-less string changes lickety-split!

The last time I bought cables I could hardly find any by planet waves, I ended up barely finding one on Amazon so I figured they were phasing out or something lol. I haven't looked in years, I've just been making due with what I have and it's about time to treat myself.

My favorite planet waves were the ones with the "spring"-like bulging part on the jack that kinda held them in, I've never tried the circuit breaker ones, they look super neat though.

Think I'm gonna look into those George L's today, hopefully have the solution to my problem soon

I used to make a ton of my own cables from a couple 500 foot spools of wire I bought back in the 90's. People must have liked them because I don't have a single one left! All stolen by guys pretending to be my FRIENDS!!!! These days I just buy them pre-made from a local shop. They don't cost that much more, and it helps support a local business.

I have only had one go bad in the last 10-15 years, and I can't even find it to fix. Someone must have stolen that one too!

i've mostly been using pig hog cables for the last couple of years,
but recently i ordered two cables for my band rig from these guys:

Not cheap - but very cool, and the quality seems great. No issues so far. You can get custom lengths using their cable builder

I'm probably going to order some stuff to make a few with, I've been in a tinkering mood lately.

But @Chocol8 I hadn't even thought about checking the local music store, they're literally a block away from me, I'll have to make a trip tomorrow and see if they've got anything in the area I'm looking for.

Definitely checking out sorrycables too.
Edit: definitely gonna have to order one or two...maybe 3. I like the cut of their jib.

Also, are right angle speaker cables just not really a thing? The only one I could find on Sorry was straight/straight. The one I have fine, but it's basically just some zip-cord with ΒΌ" jacks on either end. I'm just wanting to clean up my cables and pedals, and possibly the back of my amp.

I make my own. I use Canare GS-6, Mogami, and the Redco brand.

As I may have mentioned before, if I buy expensive cables, they break almost right away, and if I buy cheap crappy ones they last forever, thereby leaving me stuck with the cheap ones. But they work, so I can't argue with the results!

I got the greatest cable ever off amazon during covid. Woven cover, solid, colorful , cheap and had a cutout switch so no buzz then unplugging.
I'd tell you what but they stopped selling and I cant find them now.
