Caravaner for a change

So,

Last fall we sold our campervan, a big 4 ton RV, because we couldn't go much anywhere and decided it a good time to sell before it starts to get too old and lose too much value.

Now however we bought a camper trailer, a rather small one but still offers beds for up to six, for four nicely. It's light and nimble enough to tow easily. Last night we took it out to a test night for the first time.

Hoping for the covid issue to subside, and maybe next summer we can tour Norway with it.

As it is, just camping areas rather near here, maybe a week in Lapland skiing later on this winter. We'll see. Our car is just 2wd so winter towing can be a bit scary at times especially up those skiing hills in Lapland, but at least it's a diesel with nice torque & I bought a set of snow chains as well.

Anyhow...it's gonna cut into my guitar playing time for sure. But it's OK. One needs breaks from music now and then.

Its amazing how light those trailers have become...when I was a kid, they weighed so much that you couldn't think about towing without a truck. Best we could do back then was the pop-up style tent-trailers, and even that was fun to tow with a car!

Yeah, and this is an exceptionally light one, very modern. The car has a tow capacity of 4200lbs but this weighs under 2700lbs, so it's really easy to tow.

Some day I'll want an RV again, but right now it doesn't make much sense to get one, as we need it so little and we need several cars anyhow. Can't afford to keep an RV with all the running and depreciation costs when we'd use it so little. A trailer costs barely 1/4 an equivalent RV does.

Well now you need a travel guitar for the trailer so you don't lose playing time. :D

Very cool - supremely jealous. My wife and I went from California to Texas and Arkansas in an SUV, staying at small hotels during the Christmas holiday. Wish we had a trailer.

The thought of hauling a trailer with 2wd, in the snow, scares me....

With a trailer like that you can bring as many guitars as you want!

Most of my camping has been in tents with our scout troop for the past decade or so, I think it would be great to do a long road trip with an RV or a camper like that one.

As we all know, 4wd gets you going in snow and ice but doesn't get you out of a 360 spin. Please drive carefully and enjoy the outdoors! :)

Yeah, towing per se is no problem, but for instance by ski slopes in Lapland the camping areas are rather high up sometimes and behind steep rises and such. But I have snow chains for the rear wheels to help when it gets tough going. Need them already to get this thing off the yard as it's on a slope and when it's stuck in snow for a few days the car just digs itself into the ice covering the driveway without chains. Some days it's a challenge to get up from the driveway even with just the car.
