Looks like the safety standards are similar to @Tonray's Ghost description of the roadways.

That turbodiesel "boat" the narrator was riding in was insane.

You can easily get a private ride on these boats at many places in an around Bangkok. Big Block V8 Engines hanging off a thin boat are something to see

Actually most Thais in normal conversation, call it by its shortened Thai name, "Khrung Thep"

Good clean fun, in my book. It ranks right up there with the guys who hang from their arms outside sky scrapers, power line towers and tall cranes.
