Billy Joe Shaver, the outlaw-country music pioneer who wrote some of the genre’s greatest songs, died Wednesday in Waco, Texas, after suffering a stroke. He was 81. Connie Nelson, a friend of Shaver’s, confirmed his death to Rolling Stone.

Shaver’s hard-lived career classics included “Honky Tonk Heroes,” “Georgia on a Fast Train,” “Old Five and Dimers Like Me,” and “Live Forever.” He wrote nine out of the 10 songs on Waylon Jennings’ 1973 outlaw-country breakthrough Honky Tonk Heroes; Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley all recorded his songs; and in 2010, Willie Nelson called him “the greatest living songwriter.”

It's been a tough week on Texas musicians.

I didn't know this one. I'll try to listen to him after I finish work today.
RIP none the less.

Hope ok otherwise.

You need to invest in a generator.

I just imagine there are cables jacked into your brain that connect you to AGF 24/7...

I have a Kubota Diesel generator. :D

The electric company had my power turned off while they were working on the problem.
The fallen trees did NOT kill my power. Nor did they knock down the drop.
The problem was the trees were SMOKING and we were afraid of starting a forest fire.
So they were in a hurry to clear the problem before starting a fire. :D

I remember Old chunk of coal. If Willie considers him a great songwriter I'd pay attention. Seems like a lot are passing lately.
