There is this one local to me. Someone will hopefully tell this guy that his mods and taste don't make a $400 Ibanez a $900 guitar.

I am readying myself to sell a couple of guitars, and am hopeful that I am ready for the potential emotional pain it will cause. Because I use Kijiji, and that means Kijidiots.
Frig, I am getting annoyed just thinking about it.
Haha... "Kijidiots".
They can only annoy you if you let them. If somebody asks you a stupid question, give them a stupid answer... I think that's fair. Have fun with it. Or don't answer them at all if it's a ridiculous offer. If you get a gut feeling that a particular person may be more trouble than they're worth, you're probably right. Trust your instincts.
Yes on the instincts.
My wife sells some rabbits on cl. She had a crazy enthusiastic buyer. Emphasis on crazy. She bought 1 no problem but really went gaga over another. But that 1 had a fight and had a wound She was healing up. My wife didn't even really want to sell and keep for breeding but the lady texted her maybe 20 times. I told her she was trouble but she likes to know her buyers will take care of animals. My wife told her it has a wound and wait. Others will be avail soon. But she wouldn't stop. Finally she sells it. The lady is ecstatic. My wife tells her how to care for the wound and do not waste money on a vet it will heal fine. Of course just 1 day later she takes it to a vet. The vet tells her how horrible a condition the rabbit is in. He Runs it through the vet med school loan repayment process and vacuums up $400 from the stupid lady. And now she is hitting my wife up for half of the med bills on a $40 rabbit.
My guess is my wife did it to shut her up and didn't tell me to shut me up.
My wife likes to play at being a businessman.
I just went through a selling experience where both the USPS and Reverb were really PITAs, and the buyer was great.
I sold a pedal through Reverb, and shipped it through USPS, and I get the payment. Five days after I ship it, USPS tracking says they're still waiting to receive it! This kind of leaves me in the worst possible position, since I can't even prove that I actually shipped it. I talk to the buyer, and we agree that it is probably lost, and he elects for a refund, which I send him. Of course something like 24 hours after I grant the refund, the pedal shows up at his door. Thanks a lot for the amazing tracking, USPS. How TF does something with tracking make it into your system and literally 3/4 of the way across the country without tracking ever showing up?
I talk to the buyer, and he is quite happy to pay me, but Reverb does not provide any way to bill someone for something that's technically already "lost", or undo a refund. Then I get a mysterious credit card charge from Reverb. I can't find much about it on the site, so I talk to their support. The support person explains that it's the recovery of the payment I got from the sale. I ask why the reversal charge is for more than I got paid, and the support person says it's because of the Reverb shipping label. Didn't I already pay for that the first time through?! The support person is really snotty about it too.
Fortunately, the buyer is a great standup guy, and we work things out. I am completely done selling things on Reverb, though, and I think I might be done buying things there too.

USPS tracking has sucked lately.
I bought pedal through reverb a few weeks ago and the tracking never updated. A week after I paid I asked the seller if he had dropped it off. He said he had same day as payment.
Same scenario as yours, seemed as though it was lost. We agreed to give it a few days and see if it showed up. It did but only with one update in tracking.
On the good news side, I just sold my Harmony archtop to a guy off Facebook; he was very pleasant to deal with - a young man who plays big band and jazz - and I was happy to cut him a break on the price since he made things easy and I was really glad to see the archtop go to a nice young player who was going to make much more use of it than I ever would have.
My under-30 CL guitar buyer got here, and proceeded to hang out outside, on an animated phone conversation, on my front yard. I had to "Dude, come on in..!" him.
Tries the guitar, gets a few $$ off, then off he goes (sounded like quick-drink-with -friends?) promising to come back with $$ in an hour.
Texted in "I got a flat...postpone."
That was kind of funny watching youth acting their age..!
The other farm cats didn’t super love him but the chickens thought he was alright so he became a chicken.
A pox on people who don't take their listings down or mark them as sold when the item sells. Somebody around here got a real good deal on a Rickenbacker 4003, but it wasn't me.
And now I am trying to negotiate the purchase of a high-dollar item which is a pretty damn good deal...and the seller has some kind of family emergency and has had to suddenly to leave town for SIX WEEKS. He seems like an intelligent, reasonable person and a good communicator, and I have no reason to think he is lying, but I have a sinking feeling that I will never hear from him again, just because that's the way it always seems to turn out. Or he'll come back into town and decide he doesn't want to sell after all.

They're probably the same people who when you ask about product info on amazon, walmart, home despot, etc., answer "I'm sorry, I don't know …"
Why the hell do they bother to respond? Another 5 seconds of my life I'll never get back.
Heheh... That thought crossed my mind too. Every time I see that on Amazon, I wish there were a reply function in the Q&A section. My theory is that most of those people are older folks who aren't internet savvy, and think Amazon is asking them that question personally, and feel it would be rude not to respond... You know, since Amazon took the time to write to them for their opinion and all. The same people who fall for Nigerian prince emails and Microsoft support scams.
That is funny. Sometimes those dumb answers are 4 or 5 in a row.
Within about 24 hours, I...
- found a guitar husk on CL that I was interested in, and started communicating with the seller
- put a pedal up for sale, and sold it literally within about 12 hours, for the price I was asking, with no hassle
- came back to find that the husk had apparently already been sold
Why don't people who put stuff up on Reverb seem to pay any attention to what the market price for things is for things that you can currently get new? For example, pretty much every used TC Electronic Choka tremolo pedal on Reverb is $50 or over when you consider shipping. Meanwhile, you can get a new one from Sweetwater for $49, with free shipping. There's one on Reverb that's $50 and $25 shipping!! Are these people just waiting patiently for an idiot to come along, or what?

I sold an amp recently, for the price I was asking, although it took a little while. The eventual buyer was great, but what I don't understand is people who write to you and ask basic questions about the specs for something.
"How many watts is it?"
Do they not have Google on your planet?
I missed out on a silverface pro reverb for $500. Actually most of the time I'm losing out on local things it's to Chad who I think hardly logs in there anymore. He got a sick Marshal 100W head with a 4X12 for $1k and a Gibson LP that I kind of wanted for $1200 (probably worth $1600-1800. Most of my good deals are from the same two people over and over.
I just picked up a mint Ibanez AS73 for $250. I did not even want if but for that price I will get some play out of it. I have always found them comfortable to play. It was on local CL. There are not many deals on their anymore.

I am currently pursuing a good deal on FB Marketplace. A very good deal. A suspiciously good deal, frankly.
I know, I know, if something seems too good to be true it probably is, so I am waiting for the first red flag to pop up.
Here in the Bangkok area I am loving FB Marketplace, especially the ratings that users can accrue. I have sold quite a few small things (pedals etc) and a couple of Amps. Based upon my dealings I haev gotten a 5 star rating and people see that quite favorably. I had 1 guy pay me even before sending a driver to pick up an amp at my house, when the usual process would be to wait until driver gets here, verify the item is in good condition and then send payment online before driving off. Another great thing about here is the food delivery companies (our version of Uber Eats) actually will do package deliveries too. So I had a small amp and pedal combo, and the guy sent a motorcycle with an insulated food box on the bike to carry the stuff away. Love it...makes Craigslist Central NJ just a bad memory

Dang, that's wild. Here in the US, something like "I will send someone to pick it up and pay you separately" is a MASSIVE red flag.

Yeah..even when you buy something from one of the respectable retailers, should you want it immediately they will arrange a "Grab" delivery (Grab is Uber here). If it's small it will be on motorcycle, if larger like an amplifier, it will come either in a private car or sometimes a taxi if the driver participates in the Grab ecosystem. You can order an amp in Bangkok at 9 AM and get it at your house before lunch. It's a real service oriented economy.
