3. 100 packs that I really like although I only bought them because a musicians friend double the pricmatch difference and amazon mispriced the 100 pack as a 6 pack.
Good times. That and a few straps bought me my acoustic bass for no cash.. if I had bought 60 packs I could have got a gibson for free but i didnt want to be greedy.
Anyway I also have a pick punch so that's a hundred more and enough used credit and gift cards to make a few hundred more easy. So currently about 700

The why:
So why ask how many picks someone has? Well, I was hitting the guitar forum circuit the other night and I ran across a question from someone about picks. The person didn’t have many posts on the site, and he asked several questions within the one post about picks. Questions about thickness; your favorite kind; what you have tried; why you use what you do and so on. I use different picks a lot and found that different materials give different me results on different guitars, different genres of music, and when plugging in direct to my interface to record or using a mic or both and mixing it.

I like things neat, orderly, and consolidated to a space. So, I posted pictures of my two boxes of picks that show how I keep track of them. I pull picks from the boxes and put them in an ashtray that sits on my desk. V-Picks I switch back and forth because they don’t wear out. Regular picks I replace as I wear them out or they break. I didn’t think the number was obnoxious or strange. I didn’t type saying you must use this brand and/or thickness to get this or that.

The next day one of the administrators for the forum posted how my obscene the number of picks I had was. He said hearing a difference in the sound of what was being played was not affected by someone’s choice of picks. How if he can’t get something to sound right it’s him and not the pick causing the problem. Perhaps I am nuts but, when I play/record something and it all sounds right with the exception of this ticking piece of plastic against the strings and I can remove it by changing a pick material, I do it. There are times I want to hear the pick attack and there are times I do not. I don’t blame the pick, I just try a different material. I can get additional/different sounds by changing from a .38 mm plastic pick to a 4 mm acrylic pick. Not to mention other materials. I find it interesting and fun.

The majority of picks I have acquired over my playing lifetime. I just thought that was a normal thing.

So, it made me curious about how many picks other players have laying around. I did count all the picks I had in the photos and it came to 305.

Okay, I don't know what kinda guitar site you were at, but this is certainly the place to look anytime you need validation of excess. Affordable excess.

I have a pick ashtray too., the extra's I keep in 2 smaller peanut butter jars. 1 jar for virgin picks and 1 for those that have been used, still serviceable, but not for current circulation.

Yes on the pick punch. But i don't really like the credit card ones, i try to find other plastic or use the pick sheets you can buy. So about 500.

You know those clear, plastic boxes Seymour Duncan pickup sets come in? The ones big enough for two pups? Remove the pickups and the foam inserts, and that's how many I have. The box is jammed full of about half commercially sold picks and ones I made with a Pick Punch. Plus another single DiMarzio box about 3/4 full.

So, how ever many that is, plus another six or seven out on my audio desk.

Han, my boogie! I tried some creamy PB this week because the store was out of crunchy. This stuff is disgusting. Glad someone else will eat it so we don't have to.

Fresh ground PB, on the other hand, might be closer to smooth than crunchy. But it's so heavily textured and granular that it takes top notch.

I have a Vita-Mix, love it, warm fresh ground peanut butter. I also keep powdered peanut butter for making PB banana waffles. Unfortunately my gout doesn't like peanuts, or rather it does.

I have over a 100, easily. Most of those are from packs of really cheap no name stuff like when I bought a guitar off of alibaba, it came with a ton of tortex like picks in different thicknesses. Then I have a lot of celluloid picks that came with some other cheap guitar accessory from somewhere. But I have about 20 picks displayed on a wooden pick holder shaped like a pic that my wife gave me for Father's Day. There, I hang them on the wall, and they're always in easy reach. She also bought me a pack of 10 V-picks because those are my favorite, and they're clear, so I tend to lose them a lot! So far I've been pretty good about putting them back, too. All of the others are scattered around the house or in cases.

about a dozen floating around the guitar room, usually a couple on top of each amp. inevitably one or two end up on my desk somewhere. then i have a little box with ~50-100 assorted picks that i've acquired randomly over the years. usually i keep a pick or two in a little keychain pouch (courtesy of [mention]TVvoodoo[/mention] for emergency backup. in the jam room i have one of those mic stand holders that i keep 5 or 6 in
