I don’t need the money, and the seat is mint... if the guy counter offered me $75 instead of the $100 I posted, I’d take it. It’s the lack of tact that irritates me.
I should probably list all items with a FIRM price, but, to tell the truth I like to give people a better deal if I get good vibes from them - like the trike I mentioned above... I didn’t really want anything for it, but if you really want to meet the POS bottom feeders, shameless users, and general scum in your area - post an item for free and see what you get.

Yeah, I had a guy who showed up and tried to lowball me because the pot didn't feel right (one was a bit stiffer/looser than the other). When I started to leave he acted as I was being rude. Then he started texting me saying he knew where I lived and worked and wanted to fight me. All that after showing up hours late.

Yup... and he showed up in a truck with the name of the contracting company he works for. Some people are entitled and when they get angry don't care that I'm two meters tall or think anything through for that matter.
Had a guy contact me on FB about a guitar today. He actually made an offer in his opening communique, so I thought, hey, a good sign. I wrote him back accepting his offer, telling him what neighborhood I was in and when I was available, and asking him when he might be able to pick it up. His response?
"oh i thought you shipped haha"
I didn't say anything about shipping on the FB post. Why would you just assume that a non-dealer posting locally on FB is offering shipping included in the price? (Unless FB Marketplace screwed up and put me in the "Dealers who ship" category, which I guess is possible; I'll have to check.)

I just went to buy an NAD amp, a CD player, tape deck and pair of Goodmans speakers for $65. I had to drive about 2 hours, but dropped off my daughter along the way.
I saw it and was prepared to pay and take it. But they insisted that I try it first. Well, we couldn't get both channels to play. We swapped speakers side to side, tried A and B outputs... all the things we could think of. Finally, they insisted I just take it, for free! They needed the space. I tried to leave cash, but they would have none of it!
Their place is along the way to my parents cottage - I'll drop by with a cake or something.
There are good people out there!

I once had a guy buy a GFS aluminum shielding plate for a Strat off me for $10. Two days later, the contacted me and asked for his money back because the screw holes didn't line up on his USA Strat body. He was a nice guy, and was not accusatory about things, so I gave him his money back, but I felt compelled to point out that one could easily drill new holes.

So someone contacted me last night to buy my tube screamer via FB marketplace. I checked his profile to see what has posted publicly. It's straight-up neo-nazi BS (like calling black people baboons). Do people not realize that if they post stuff like that some of us aren't going to want to buy or sell items like that? Or do they just not care?

Just missed out on a original Supro Dual Tone from 1957 $400. About 5 miles from me, had a LOT of gold worn off and corrosion on most all parts, body looked decent. I could have flipped it for 500-700 but it was not worth the $1000 or more they seem to be going for.

Had a guy contact me about a part. Did not try to haggle. Sounded like a real person. Wanted to meet up real soon. Great! We settled on meeting the next afternoon. 25 minutes before the guy is scheduled to show, he emails and says "sorry can't make it today". Does not suggest another time. Does not respond to my email suggesting we set up another time. I get that stuff happens, and at least he emailed me to say he couldn't make it instead of just ghosting, but stuff seems to happen a lot more on CL than it happens elsewhere.
Also had another guy contact me about some speakers. Asks a not-terribly-coherent question, which I answer the best I can. He asks if I'll accept offers. I say, sure, reasonable offers considered. He responds with an amount 1/3 of what I was asking.

And I had somebody flake out for the second time in a week. Person contacts me about a guitar, seems really excited about it, we go back and forth and make arrangements to meet the next day...that morning they email and say, "Sorry, I can't justify spending the money right now."
This after the guy who contacted me about a guitar and was very happy to talk but kept dodging questions about whether he actually wanted to buy it; he seemed more interested in sending me pictures of other guitars he'd bought. And the guy who offered me a trade I had not expressed any interest in and then couldn't even describe it very well. "Would you be interested in a Rick copy" Is it a guitar or a bass? "It has six strings"
EDIT: Well, today's person did at least contact me again to say it might be a few weeks but they were still definitely interested. So a grain of my faith in humanity is restored.

I've had a cheap Schecter up on Facebook for a few weeks. No contacts except for the immediate extreme low ballers. Nine days ago I had a young guy contact me who was extremely interested. Turned out he didn't have the money immediately but he was a real guitar player who was passionate about this guitar because it was like one that had been "borrowed" and never returned. He wasn't local but I could swing by his town as part of another trip, cost me maybe an hour and a half. We made plans to talk this week.
He didn't call me so I called him. He was apologetic, said he had lost his job, but now had another one. Clearly a person very low on the economic ladder. But still very interested, clearly not a flake. We had trouble talking, as he seemed to be at work, but he messaged me afterward, saying to raise the price if I wanted, but please save it another couple of weeks.
This I can deal with. If the guitar means something to him, it's his, at the original price if not less. I would highly prefer it go to someone it will mean something to.

NOT Facebook/CL: I finally decided to take a bass amp over to Guitar Center and see what they would offer me, because I was about ready to take anything.
The local GC has two levels; you enter on the ground floor, which has mostly DJ and PA gear, and all of the other stuff, including guitars, is downstairs. I go in and take the amp downstairs. Guy at the counter says, "Oh, buy-ins are upstairs." I go back upstairs and tell them I'm here to sell something. "Oh, buy-ins are downstairs." I explain and they get on the phone and finally manage to get somebody to come around and take the amp back downstairs.
The guy is about to plug it in and test it. He is not sure if he needs a cabinet to test the head. He is not sure if they have one that will work. He says this while he is staring at a wall of bass cabinets. He starts to set it up, and says, "Where's the power cord? Everything we buy has to have a power cord with it." I explain that I have sold several things to GC before and no one has ever said this. He says it's policy. He can throw in a new power cord that they have, but he'll have to take the price of it out of what they can give me. FINE, WHATEVER. He goes and gets a cord.
He comes back with one and says, "Sorry, this is the only one we have...it's $50." Seriously? GC expects me to take a $50 haircut because they only have one power cord in stock? Had I known about this policy, I would have grabbed one of the many spares I have lying around. He apologetically says he'll check what they could offer me, looks at his computer, then mumbles that it wouldn't really be worth it for me.
On the way home with the amp, I stop at the local dollar store, and note that IEC power cords cost about $5 there.

We sold a kitten recently on cl after helping the ferile mother. Beautiful long hair siamese. Any way the kitten looked the same so we sold it. It was a bit skittish from the moms fright of us but figured it would be fine. After a few days the owners call us and say the kitten hates the little girl. But funny enough kind of likes the older sister. So we give a refund and they tell us they gave the cat a bath. So that's why the hissing and scratching. Funny enough after the kitten went though those clueless owners she is now not skittish at all and is a little love doll. Now my wife wants to keep her. Damnit.
Update - This person contacted me, said he now had the money, and I delivered the guitar this weekend. On a similar note, I had another relatively low line Schecter up for sale. Like the first guitar, it sat out there for probably six weeks with no serious interest. I had no sooner listed it on Reverb than a young local guy found my Facebook listing. It took him a couple of weeks to raise the money as well, but since he was also passionate about that particular guitar (not to mention that he was the only one
) I took the listings down while he did so. In both cases I was struck by how enthusiastic the buyers were for the guitars. Both were into metal/shred and of course Schecters are known for that. But both guys messaged me afterward, one of them several times, with vids of them playing. In any case, I feel the guitars ended up in exactly the right hands, and I'm delighted as well.
