I thought he was great in Time Bandits as Napoleon and in The Fifth Element as Vito Cornelius. Fantastic supporting actor.

Sir Ian was one of my favourite actors and I remember 'hating' his character (Ash) in Alien, he played it so coldly and so well. We studied Lord of the Rings for a time in English Lit in school and our teacher would play us the BBC radio version where he played Frodo. It was touching to see Peter Jackson bring him back to take on Bilbo's role. A great and understated actor who'll be sadly missed.

you know everyone is talking about this make believe dwarfs passing (ok the lecherous priest who tried NOT to stare at Milla Jovavich dressed in a band aid?)
But no one seems to CARE about the passing of the GREATEST vehicle for one of the 20th centuries unsug artists!
Thats right Mad Magazine will publish one last print edition in July to display 'Hollywoood Tough guy' Artist Al Jaffe's finals famous fold in.......
sigh
dad said read a book and I did, it was Asimovs FOUNDATION not The Hobbit
Mad Magazine I read on my OWN!

My friend Morris Bray wrote a song back in the 70's while we were aboard the USS Nimitz. A line in the song was "Bilbo is a friendly Hobbit". Morris passed away a few years ago.

Sir ian was impressive. I think I even ran into him in a 70s teen sex comedy type thing. He was everywhere.
Just amazing.
Al jaffee I saw wasn't dead but retiring at 99? Wow
