I thought he was great in Time Bandits as Napoleon and in The Fifth Element as Vito Cornelius. Fantastic supporting actor.

Sir Ian was one of my favourite actors and I remember 'hating' his character (Ash) in Alien, he played it so coldly and so well. We studied Lord of the Rings for a time in English Lit in school and our teacher would play us the BBC radio version where he played Frodo. It was touching to see Peter Jackson bring him back to take on Bilbo's role. A great and understated actor who'll be sadly missed.

My friend Morris Bray wrote a song back in the 70's while we were aboard the USS Nimitz. A line in the song was "Bilbo is a friendly Hobbit". Morris passed away a few years ago.

Sir ian was impressive. I think I even ran into him in a 70s teen sex comedy type thing. He was everywhere.
Just amazing.
