I asked ChatGPT to write a poem about three random things that popped into my head: "hawk, petroleum and tulip".
This is what it came up with (in about 4 seconds):

A hawk ascends, its wings like blades,
Cutting clouds where silence wades.
It circles high in ashen sky,
A sentinel watching worlds pass by.

Below, the land, a barren sea,
Marked by drills in a quiet plea.
Petroleum’s pulse, deep underground,
A blackened treasure, silent, profound.

Yet near the drills, a tulip grows,
A bloom of fire where cold wind blows.
Crimson petals, defiant, strong,
A fleeting song where all seems wrong.

The hawk, the bloom, the ancient oil,
Threads of life in nature’s coil.
One soars, one roots, one buried deep,
Together they whisper secrets they keep.

Each tells a tale, both bright and grim,
Of earth's resilience and human whim.
A hawk, petroleum, and tulip fair—
A fragile balance hangs in air.

It sounds really cool if you imagine David Gilmour singing it with a Meddle era Pink Floyd musical composition as a backdrop.

I used AI to read it. Sounds damn good IMO.

That's crazy. I just asked ChapGPT to write an apology to my wife for buying a guitar. It turned out quite well...

Subject: Apology for Buying a Guitar

Dear [Name],

I hope you're doing well. I wanted to take a moment to apologize for purchasing the guitar. I realize it may have come as a surprise or caused some concern, and I understand how it might not have been the best decision, especially considering [any specific reasons, like financial concerns, timing, etc.].

I want you to know that I truly value your perspective, and I should have communicated better about this purchase. In hindsight, I see how it could be seen as impulsive or thoughtless, and I’m sorry if it caused any stress or frustration.

I’m committed to making sure this doesn’t negatively affect [our finances, our plans, etc.], and I will make an effort to be more mindful moving forward. I appreciate your understanding, and I hope we can discuss it further if you have any concerns.

Thank you for your patience with me.

Last year, while visiting my sister in FR, I asked to get my mom's old Kodak folder camera (I fix these at times), and was given all kinds of lousy excuses and never got it.

Noob, after reading about ChatGTP, I had a cheap trial version to reason with my frustrating situation.
The thing came up with a neat, balanced, three-paragraph advice, which was very smooth, and as good I would expect a reasonable, intelligent person would have.

The machine does not invent anything(?), but it is good aggregating the relevant good stuff, it seems.

I had it write an obit for a printer that went belly up.

Obituary for HP 418_A
It is with heavy hearts (and slightly ink-stained hands) that we announce the passing of HP 418_A, a stalwart color printer, and beloved member of the President's secretarial team. Born in the assembly lines of Hewlett-Packard, 418_A was destined for greatness, serving with vibrant precision and unyielding duty at the forefront of administrative excellence.
For years, 418_A brought color to the mundane memos, pizzazz to pie charts, and life to last-minute agendas. It endured high-stakes meetings, tight deadlines, and an occasional paper jam with quiet grace. Known for its consistent performance and occasional tantrums involving the cyan cartridge, 418_A was truly one of a kind.
Despite valiant attempts to revive it—cable swaps, port migrations, and gentle power cycles—418_A quietly departed from this digital realm, its link light extinguished. It leaves behind a legacy of professionalism, countless reams of printed paper, and a faint whiff of toner.
HP 418_A is survived by:
A supply cabinet full of unused ink
A forlorn stack of letterhead
Its siblings in the HP family, still dutifully whirring in other corners of the office
In lieu of flowers, the secretaries request a new printer, perhaps one that understands the weight of their work—and maybe even has AirPrint.
Rest in pixels, dear 418_A. You’ve earned your eternal paperless peace. 🖨️✨

I'm using AI quite heavily for my work. It's going to change the work done in tech, but unless it becomes truly sentient, we're still going to need humans. Maybe fewer humans...

My older brother is a geneticist and a psychiatrist.
He said AI has already changed the way genetics research is done. And is replacing scientists and techs in that field.
People are also now starting to use AI therapists for psychological counseling.
Lots of jobs are going to disappear in the coming decades.
Thankfully, I'm retired.
