I can't dismiss the notion that there's some large family in the backwoods of some southern state (or Chinese province) with a bunch of cousins in the guitar business.

Rumor has it that this clan of backwoods guitar manufacturers share a common lineage which can be traced back to a bastard child Orville Gibson sired around 1905 while on a promotional tour of schools to market his curved top and bottom carved mandolins.

The way I understand it, a female cousin ran off and married into a family who's sir name started with a "Z", She took the secret recipe with her; however, the recipe was a fake meant to fool family members that had bad intentions.

Recent DNA testing has proved that Michael Kelly is another illegitimate descendant of Orville.

A lot of people don't know that Orville also invented the "salt trick" that's being much talked about right now. That tent pole poking up on Orville's belly ain't no mandolin tucked down the front of his trousers. It's no wonder he has so many illegitimate offspring floating around who inherited his knack for building stringed instruments.
