I just think it's an insane commentary on today's society. What have we created that things like this are even contemplated? Shame on employers and equal shame on employees using them instead of telling their boss to shove it in real time

I agree. My biggest reason for retiring early was that I was tired of all the politics and game playing. In my last year working, I literally had to yell at my boss several times for his self-centered positions instead of standing up for the team. Professionalism is rare anymore, and integrity is just a sign people think means "try to walk on me". My boss even made air quotes every time he said "work from home". It's sad, and that was at a tech company.Tonray's Ghost wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 11:48 am I just think it's an insane commentary on today's society. Yup...I left IT (network Engineer at Prudential Financial for 13 years) in 2000, in part to take care of my mom because she was falling fast with dementia but in part because I was doing more executive presentations and budget plans than actually installing and configuring equipment which I loved..but still responsible when the stuff was done incorrectly and I had to fix it ! Fun while it lasted though.BatUtilityBelt wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 12:46 pmI agree. My biggest reason for retiring early was that I was tired of all the politics and game playing. The company I worked for for many years lost it's mind so I decided to semi-retire and go back to the small firm I started with. They are not that small any longer but still have the small company fraternal culture where one does not have to be on pins and needles thinking one might say something to offend someone.

So glad I don't work in a place where they use stuff like that to track our performance.
If I had to fake effort because my employer didn't have the ability to understand why this type of tracking is stupid, I would quit.

There's a company talking about doing location tracking of its workers here in Canada. It never ends well FOR THE COMPANY. I suspect they will lose top people because of it. How many times does this need to happen before people wise up?
Better to create a culture where people will walk through walls for you without being ordered to. It's about respect.
