I almost don't want to know.

This is an image I've studied so many times, becoming lost in reverie contemplating the Les Paul, the old fashioned mic stand, the pedals, the purple velvet pants, the animal print platform shoes, what looks like a crochet tank top, the rapt attention on the faces of the kids in the crowd, the adorable hippy girl watching from the side of the stage, the smoky haze of the hall, and the overall ambience of the late 60s/early 70s.

The guitarist in this photo has come to mean more to me than any real person possibly could. He's passed over into being a representation, an image or icon signifying something great and glorious but now lost.

I may or may not return to read the replies.

I'm gonna say that's Jimmy Page in Boston (playing the Boston Tea Party), 1969. But I'm relying on multiple results from Google image search.Image

Wow, you're quick! If that's Zeppelin in May of 1969, Jimmy would have just purchased No. 1 from Joe Walsh the month previous. Would you look at the line up on this calendar!

What threw me off is how toned, tanned, and athletic Jimmy looks. I'm used to seeing the pasty white, emaciated, heroine chic Jimmy from a few years later.

Yeah, me too! I think the difference is what happens to a lot of musicians who make it to the top tier... their life can change in every conceivable manner. I was worried about that long before I found out I was never going to make it near fame and fortune, because I heard it would be almost impossible to write the way I did after making it. Luckily, it didn't take as much of a toll on Sir Jimmy Page as it did on many others near his level.

I was going to guess Page or Joe Perry.
